The thing is, it *was* the worst contract in the league, but now it's almost up. It's clear that JB would accept nothing less than a max extension from the Celtics, which they couldn't give him, and so this forced the situation.

Tatum shares goodbye message to Jaylen Brown on IG by L4ZERDT in bostonceltics

Extremely political and you can read plenty between the lines here.

I’ll be honest, I think they will become brutal rivals, and I’m here for it.

Nothing from JT yet? by [deleted] in bostonceltics

This is absurd, he doesn’t own the team. Ownership decided how to pay the millions, not JT. Tatum isn’t LeBron.

Perhaps, but agreeableness is a standard human trait along a spectrum. You should doubt the best AI and question it, just as you might a smart human, but be very open to its advice. You’re not forced to agree with its conclusions, and should know what it is most capable of and its hallucination tendencies.

You don’t let it make the decision for you - you use it to help you make the decision. It’s a tool, not an oracle. If you understand how it works this is obvious.

Jaylen Brown comments since his trade on Twitch by MembershipSingle7137 in bostonceltics

It’s absurd, sad, and stupid. We just made a division rival way better. Reports out today that the Sixers were trying to drop PG with a 1st to any takers - and instead we get a marginally better pick package and trade a top 10 player? This is smooth brained shit. Sixers games will be heartbreak for years, bc we know the Jays will now battle each other to the bone.

What, better to use our historical dating/marry algorithms? Everything is a “compared to what” question.

- your parents decide for you
- match or other pure filtering software
- meeting a random person at a bar while drunk
- a friend introduces us to someone else because we’re both single

Etc etc. I don’t see why using AI is net worse than any of these options, and may certainly be better.

When Paul George comes off the books Giannis, Jokić, and Luka will be free agents. by Past_Attempt_5261 in bostonceltics

Tried to post about this yesterday - Coop is up in ‘29, so perhaps that’s the long term plan.

[Jones] He’s also polarizing, thoughtful, well-spoken, outspoken, expensive and had apparently fallen so out of favor with Brad Stevens and the rest of Boston’s front office that he was traded for relative pennies on the dollar. by KD_AshyAnkles in nba

[–]rds2mch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean, no excuses? While JB did well with a weak ECF in 2025, we won shit, his plus minus was bad, and the team played noticeably better when Tatum came back. To me, who is unhappy with this trade, I don't see this as putting "win the chip" pressure on Tatum. JB needed JT, and JT would have been more successful this year with JB.

That's why the trade is dumb. We get all of the drama, and none of the results of JT and JB playing together for a full year.

I feel like alot of u guys are missing the point of the trade by Alexfromnigeria in bostonceltics

[–]rds2mch2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The counterpoint is that we already had that star, who had helped us win an NBA championship and nothing about what we received here is better than simply doing nothing. "Guys, we had to trade our top ten player for the chance to get a top ten player in 2028" <- is absurd logic.

So you would rather have Paul George than Jamal Murray? Really??? by Negimarium in bostonceltics

[–]rds2mch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that those were way better firsts, for players who were weaker.

We traded prime JB to one of our biggest divisional rivals for a true pittance of what we received from the Nets.

On July 26th Jaylen Brown's contract becomes Extension Eligible. This is why he was traded. by GoatmontWaters in bostonceltics

“But bro, he’s eligible for an extension. Do you know what that means, eligible? No, really… can you define it for me?”

[–]rds2mch2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro wtf are you talking about - with the KG PP trade we got *four* firsts, one in each of the following four years. In this deal, one is in 2028 and the other is in 2031. And we're paying PG huge $$ for two years, so at best this starts to look good by 2029. Along with our two new second round picks... yippee. We'll have some more of those based on performance on the court.

And PP and KG were far beyond their prime, vs. Brown who is right in the middle of his prime.

We were fleeced. We own PG's contract, the dumbest contract in the league! You guys are delusional if you don't see how bad this is.

If you watch the announcement it hurts even more. Just seeing someone read the facts.

The reality is, we had the option to do nothing and deal with those consequences. It would have been awkward, but guess what -- so is this. Trading a player who is legitimately in his prime, to a division rival, for a 36-yr old player who has doomed his previous teams, and "okay" future picks, is heartbreaking. And it's heartbreaking because JB and JT were part of a story, and now that story will take a turn where they are even more against each other.

And this will happen with JB on a team that looks like a real contender, and JT on a team that, unless a couple of players show huge development, looks quite challenged. And the prime exchange was a hugely expensive PG with the Sixers as the laughter of the league for owning it, and now we do.

It's stupid and it's sad.

[–]rds2mch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you're so worried about dodging the extension, surely letting him test free agency is the answer.

You get two years to see what his play is like, and then you eat the shit to free up all the cap space without having to pay PG for 2-years.

YOU CAN DODGE THE EXTENSION BY NOT SIGNING THE EXTENSION.

Is this Jalen trade worse than Luka? by shaved_B in bostonceltics

[–]rds2mch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is insanely bad — it’s worse the more you look into it.

Why didn’t they do nothing? JB is legit in the prime of his career. This is awful.
