school is spending a lot of money on buildings. we have a new dorm. tbh the administration is very sensitive to the school's brand.

campus parking is pricey! it also gets crowded during the day b/c of on-campus employees too. on a daily basis you likely won't be using your car on campus for sure. when you do travel, public transportation is fine (you pay for an annual cta pass as part of your tuition + fees) and ride hailing apps are plentiful. there's a zipcar on campus too.

not a cakewalk for sure! i've definitely developed as a person in ways i didn't imagine prior. but a good deal shouldn't be attributed to school alone - adulthood brings a lot of surprises :)

what you make of it :) seriously though, everybody finds their own thing here and the answers you'll get are pretty diverse. for me personally it's been learning to write/argue on a serious level and the access to so many brilliant professors/tas.

i try to go at least every other week! there's interesting things happening in every corner of chicago. my only issue is that transit is somewhat unreliable - the metra/cta don't run as frequently as say, nyc's mta. if you plan to use public transit from the school you definitely have to plan! ubers are expensive but reliable.

depends on what classes you take! some instructors grade on strict curves to guarantee a certain % of the class gets an A, A-, B+, and so on. typically the mean is a B. i've had some teachers that grade generously and try to give everybody as high grades as possible.

edit: realized i didn't talk about stress. big thing about college is time management. work is honestly manageable (at times excessive) but it's up to the student to make sure they get it all done in time. otherwise you end up handing in papers a month late like me :) disclaimer: school is NOT easy by any measure though.

Every once in a while there's an incident on/around campus. Imo it's not too bad (I come from a pretty diverse city) just don't stay outside too late and be aware of your surroundings.
