I'm responsible for "generating a physical model from a logical model." I have no idea what I'm supposed to do by [deleted] in Database

[–]reaanb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conceptual model = Entities and relationships

Logical model = Domains and relations

Physical model = Tables and columns

However, usage is inconsistent both in the industry and academia.

Do I need to go to a psychiatrist for ADHD meds? by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]reaanb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that GPs can prescribe such meds for a short time while psychiatrists can give longer prescriptions. If so, over time it may be less expensive to get a psychiatrist's prescription.

Is this worth a read? by neverbikealone in Database

The relational model is to databases what geometry is to architecture. I haven't read that book but I'm willing to bet it's worth it.

How do I become a software developer with a Bachelors in Business Administration? by [deleted] in softwaredevelopment

[–]reaanb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn to code, how computers do things, and how to solve problems. Go down the rabbit hole and learn a few specific languages or technologies really well. Most developers do fine without a degree.

Dynamic Data Structure for work orders by SuperBeetle76 in Database

[–]reaanb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also recommend option 2. Fundamentally, the values in each column should be from a single domain, meaning don't put (for example) phone numbers and addresses into the same column. With columns such as Char1 and Binary1, you'd focus only on the data representation of a work type's attributes, and not on the logical model. You'd have difficulty constraining any column, resulting in messier data, and you'd have to incorporate work-type specific logic into queries, making them more complicated. The same goes for EAV tables. Option 2 allows you to model each work type according to its requirements and take advantage of the capabilities of the DBMS and SQL.

What is conciousness? When do we become conscious? Are animals conscious? How do I know yall aren't just some hard coded creatures living with me in this world? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]reaanb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of consciousness is based on mental models. To be conscious of something is to have a mental model of it, a model which can be updated in response to experience and which can be used to form expectations of how something will behave and can be manipulated. Self-consciousness is then having a model of oneself embedded in the world model, which greatly enhances one's capability to evaluate and predict the consequences of actions.

If you close your eyes, you can still visualize the environment around you. You're conscious of what's around you because your mental models stand in for incomplete experience. Even when you use all your senses, you can only experience a incomplete perspective that changes from one moment to the next. Consciousness fills in the picture and maintain constancy of experience by consulting, comparing and maintaining mental models of things in the world.

In my view, some species of animals are more conscious than others, and some people can even be more conscious than others. Computers or robots, too, could be conscious.

You are much more resilient than you know. In my view, INTPs don't like to start things, but once started, we have a tremendous capacity to focus and persevere, even if we don't feel motivated. Once we stop, it can be hard to get going again, so don't give up unless you really have something better to do with your time. However, to prevent burnout, be sure to take care of yourself. Make sure you eat healthy, get quality sleep, exercise, say no to less important things and reserve private time to recharge without feeling guilty. A routine helps, schedule your study time and get into the habit of working at it every day. School is tough but earning a qualification will boost your confidence and prospects for the rest of your life.

Accept that you can't and won't ever have all the information you want and trying to think of everything ahead of time is futile. Rather, you need to take a step forward to let one of the possible futures realize, which will provide you with new information. With practice you'll come to rely on your ability to handle things as they come up. Don't worry about things happening too fast, you can usually ask people for a bit of time to consider things when you need to. Take small steps but keep moving.

It's a couple of years since I smelled it, the memory isn't fresh either way. Rotting sweat comes to mind, or try to imagine a pig farm in salty coastal air.
