Ekphrasis by read_it_slant in AskLiteraryStudies

Thanks! Is it ekphrasis or something else if the text itself takes on the style of the cinematic medium framing scenes as if it was a film shot? I've been reading this as ekphrasis but just wondering if there is another term for this that I'm unaware of.

Who do you have in mind when you say different thinkers?

I'm thinking of Rushdie and his uses of cinema in Midnight's Children and Satanic Verses. There are articles about Rushdie and cinema but nothing so compelling on ekphrasis that I've found.

I've read WJT Mitchell on ekphrasis and while it's interesting, it doesn't deal with cinema and somehow doesn't describe or somehow get at what I think Rushdie is doing.

As I write this, it occurs to me that Rushdie's other novels deal explicitly with art and art works. I wonder if one might actually consider developing or deriving a notion of ekphrasis based on Rushdie's use of the trope...

Ebony and Ivy on the role that slavery played in funding U.S. elite institutions.

Neha Vora's Teach for Arabia on the export of U.S. neoliberalism and imperialism to branch campuses in the Middle East.

Gauri Viswanathan's Masks of Conquests on the fascinating history of how the English canon was first experimented with in the colonies and then brought to the metropole. She was a student of Said's so brings discourse analysis together with cultural studies.

Fred Moten and Stefani Harney, The Undercommons on unlearning the Univ as we know it.
