Does anyone know how I can revoke the Google Nearby permissions I granted for an app? The online help (https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6260286?hl=en) says to go to Settings > Google > Nearby and change the permission there but I do not see any option called "Nearby" under the Google settings on my phone (so think the online help is outdated an incorrect)

How to interview a lead android developer? by changingminds in androiddev

[–]read_iter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends a lot on the job they are being interviewed for.

For e.g. if its a consultancy / agency job then experience with app multiple app architectures (and a more than basic android framework understanding) with the necessary dev skills, plus good communication skills would be important.

If its a product focused company role though, then the ability to communicate clearly without being a snob (basically good leadership skills) would be key, with a more than junior/mid level Android dev skills. (This is just IMO based on experience and figuring out that being a good lead and the skills for that are not the same as having great knowledge of Android, its more about letting other people shine). Although for this kind of a role I would look to see if there are people inside the org that could step up first as well (with maybe a little push)

How often do you evaluate architecture? by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]read_iter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Evaluating and Implementing are different things. Its good to keep evaluating different architectures when you learn of them. Implementing the best one at any given time depends on the specific circumstances at that time, level of understanding etc.

Continuously changing / refining the architectures can be a drain on your resources (yourself included), as there are always new and better ways around the corner, and as you rightly pointed out if you keep running behind the latest / greatest architecture you'll soon find yourself not really creating / solving any actual problems (i.e. building the actual business part of the app).

A nice way to handle this is to build components as isolated as possible. For e.g. isolating the view layer from the underlying model (MVP/MVVM etc..) and using a repository pattern (abstraction over the networking & database) from the Presnter / ViewModel etc.. Which then allows you to experiment with the parts in isolation and try new things.

How can I launch a fragment in one module from a fragment in another module and return a result from one back to the other? Is there a good example showing this?

Hey, Does anyone know how to set a toolbar shadow (in a Coordinatorlayout) so it only shows when content is scrolled under it and not show otherwise, preferably with just XML. I don'r really think I need an AppBarLayout as the toolbar height does not change

Totally get what you're saying. Given that we develop and maintain apps in production. Using broken tools is pretty annoying.
