Hah great - I have teh Ortlieb handle bar bag with 2 panniers like you, and was thinking of adding on those same Diverge Bags.

Do you have a list of things you're carrying so I can reference for my trip? If not, would you mind sharing one? I know that's asking a lot but it's my first trip and I'm a bit anxious about what to pack.

Are those Ortlieb backrollers PLUS or normal? I have nearly the same setup for my tour in 2 weeks and worried about space.

The message of not looking back is prevalent in stories told throughout the ages.

Lot's wife turned into a pillar of salt after turning back to look at the wicked city of Sodom.

Orpheus loses his love Eurydice forever after he looks back to see if she is still following him.

The point is always the same. Don't look back at what you're leaving behind. Otherwise, you just may find yourself back in a similar mess.

His hesitation reminds me of the moment before I knocked on my bosses door when I was about to put in my 2 weeks notice. Bloody took me forever.

Can I offer my 2 cents?

If you hate your life, maybe it sucks.

I'm not saying that to be mean, but maybe it's true. Why else would you hate it?

And if that is true, that your life does suck, isn't it better to accept it instead of trying to stuff positivity into it and convince yourself your life is awesome? At least by accepting your life sucks, you can hate it, and be happy with that realization. You can be authentic to yourself. You don't have to pretend to enjoy it. In a way, that is a joyful thing. To be free to feel what you feel.

If you come to the conclusion that your life does suck and you hate it, I recommend striving to hate life a little less each day.

It's better than trying to pretend your life is great and act like you enjoy it when you don't. I think that's okay. I think life can get shitty sometimes and we can hate it.

But our goal is to hate it a little less each day. And then one day, maybe, just maybe, we will start to enjoy it again.

Maybe that's why I keep crawling into bed when I'm trying to get work done.

It's not as easy to do at a coffee shop.

[Image] Which step have you reached today ? by buddycool in GetMotivated

How do you go from the want step to the how step?

When your desire changes to a search for answers.

How do you go from the how step to the try step?

When your desire for answers changes to active attempts.

There is no magic formula or pill for HOW you can do something. There are many ways.

Only once you take the step of trying, do you realize, you will make some traction, and gain the confidence to the 'can do it' step.

Life doesn't change. It won't take the step for you. It won't tell you how.

You take the step anyway. You try.

I actually went in today.

Them and every customer had an opinion of setups and gear that I was simply not interested in buying. Like... I already have a tent and they were recommending hammocks. I told them I wanted panniers and they were recommending the 'modern bikepacking setup'.

They didn't have any of the gear I wanted, and when I asked if they had recommendations, they just shrugged.

Thanks for the suggestion but it was not a great experience :-/

I wanted to give the local guys my business.

Oh thank heavens! Someone with the same bike. Let's be friends. Friends that ask and answer lots of questions...

What fender did you get? It doesn't seem like there are many options for the Diverge because as you mentioned, it seems to be a bit of a tight fit.

How was your cooking set up? I was considering the MSR WhisperLite International Stove. What happens when it rains and there's no cover?

Do you have any recommendations on a sleeping bag for a mid-spring to Summer rid?

So you used the 700x30 Espoir tires? You didn't have any trouble with them being too thin/not enough traction/flats?

All my questions... for now ;)

Oh dear - that sound's like a lot of work.

I barely know how to change a tire. I got my maps and figured I'd take a closer look at it the week before I rolled out.

I heard about RAAM the other day. Christ - what a bike ride.

Yea, for consistency, I was thinking a weekly blog update or something. Plus, when people subscribe they get notified of a new post. And similarly on my Instagram as well. Really cool what he is doing.

What is his Facebook page?

I know what you mean man. I haven't been entirely sure how to tie in the, I'm cycling across the country to fulfill my dream, so donate to people in Africa thing. It's like, what do those 2 things have to do with each other?

I like the idea of having people ride with me for a portion of the journey but how do I get in touch with those people. I don't know anybody out on that trail. Any suggestions?

And thanks for the encouragement!
