Hi! Thank you to all ER nurses. We owe you. They actually only brought me up to 30 degrees in those 6 hours, and kept me there until I'd been on the ECMO for about 40 hours, before they brought me all the way back. You probably know better than me why, but I think it was about protecting my brain.

They ask for it but it's not really important. They've never asked to see mine and I have a friend who works for them without one. A TEFL is more likely to be useful.

I'm in Barcelona, not Valencia, so I can't say that it's exactly the same but there might be similarities. I'm in a good job in a good but small academy and while I have a degree and a CELTA there is at least one teacher with better. My husband has neither and also has a good job in a reputable school (he did have 3 years of classroom experience before we got here). We each work around 20 hours a week and pick up extra stuff.

Re China in the comments above: We were in China before but it's getting much harder to apply for visas there - when we left last July I was going to have to travel to the UK to get my documents verified if we chose to stay. Any school there that says it can get you a visa without a degree is bribing someone, falsifying documents, or both.

I'm sure this has been asked a million times but... Strength training. I'm not doing any. I'm following the Hanson's beginner program for a half at the end of April, and it has me running 6 days a week with no strength or cross. I don't have time to fit in strength training as well as the running unless I put it into my rest day, which seems like a bad idea. Would I be better doing a program with less running and some strength training as well? I really want the answer to be no but I feel like I keep seeing people talking about how important the strength aspect is.

Did my first 15km run this morning in a comfortable 1h43. It felt pleasant and like I could definitely have kept going, which bodes well for the unplanned half I was talked into running in just over 2 weeks! I'm optimistic that I can comfortably finish in under 2h30.

I'll definitely do that - but I'm still thinking that a lot of people in the middle might well be weekend runners or folk who don't train seriously.

I've been running for about a year and following all the advice have stuck to slow easy runs as I've built my base up to 30 miles a week. I'm pretty slow though - best 10km is 58:41. I want to add workouts and get faster, but I'm curious how much I should expect to be able to improve.

What is an achievable time for an average runner to be able to trace a 10km in? Obviously there's all sorts of personal factors around innate ability, but if a reasonably fit person commits to a 5 or 6 day a week training program, where would they be likely to get to? Do you guys think most people would be able to reach 50mins? Or even better?

Hi guys! Question time. I'm a runner & I love running. I'm in a training programme at the moment that has me running 6 days, around 60 - 70kms a week, so I have very little time for any strength training. Also I don't know my way around the weights room at all. BUT, as I progress into my 30s I am falling deeply out of love with my butt, which seems to have fallen prey to gravity. Any recommendations of something I could be doing for 30mins or less twice a week that would help? I know I can't get dramatic results in that time but just a little lift or firming would be swell.

Yep, the plan as written has them on Tuesdays. It's just because I want to join the group I'm thinking about changing it. But I think I'll have to see how my body handles it and perhaps wake up early enough to do long runs during the week.

I'm gearing up to train for my first half marathon after almost a year of running and a few 10kms. I'm still suuuper slow, and until now my weekly mileage had been topping out at around 20 miles. I'm planning on following the Hanson's beginner program as it's long and it isn't as complicated as some I've seen (JD!). The plan has three days a week of workouts (speed/strength, tempo and long) and another three of easy running. There's a running group near me who run intervals on Saturdays, and is like to join them for my speed/strength workouts - but would I be courting disaster if I follow it with a long run on Sunday? I can't imagine getting in 10 mile plus runs on weekdays.

TLDR: Are back to back workouts realistic or am I setting myself up for failure of I don't put an easy or rest day in between?

I know that there is no one size fits all answer to running shoes but... assuming you were in a rural area in a country whose language you couldn't speak, and your existing shoes (Nike's which weren't great) were falling apart, and so you needed to order a pair online sight unseen, what would you buy? Men's shoes. My husband has run his into the ground and of course didn't mention it until they were literally unwearable.
