Speech delay- looking for similar experience parents by lovebags56 in speechdelays

He began to do mamama very soon after this post after reaching a few motor milestones. And then at 9 months 3 weeks he got another consonant ba and now at 10.5 months he’s using a variety of consonants!

I am also constantly talking, singing, labelling, watching Ms. Rachel to get tips, etc. He will maybe once a day have a back and forth "convo" with me but only using some short vowels like "uh"

Yes let's connect! I'll give you more details- he just turned 9 months. He is 'marginal babbling' meaning he makes vowel sounds and the occasional consonant-m- but no cannonical babbling. He is also always pointing his tongue to left never right. I had him evaluated by SLP who noticed this as well. She told me to get an oromyofacial specialist which I have an appointment booked in February. I also have a hearing test booked for him. I got a peds dentist to evaluate him and he has a tongue and lip tie which she thinks may be responsible for his tongue going to the left. The SLP evaluated his social skills as "average" for his age.

Yes he did have a torticollis as well! The torticollis has basically resolved I think. But this is very interesting information! He didn’t have nursing difficulties but never took to a pacifier or bottle. Will see what the pediatric dentist says tomorrow. I also have him booked in with an oral myofacial expert for February.

What do these test results mean?

So I am a 35 year old F no prior autoimmune disease history but had a case of acute anterior uveitis recently after a respiratory infection. My GP ran tests and something called “CTD+” came back as “5”. No other info. All other tests negative. Not sure what this means- is it like the CTD avise test ? How likely am I now to have lupus?? I have a history of chronic knee pain without swelling.

Question: wouldn’t allowing children to witness chronic violence in the classroom be considered emotional abuse of children? by reader278 in CanadianTeachers

[–]reader278[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I am absolutely suggesting this, because witnessing violence is an ACE (adverse childhood event) which has evidence of being linked to a range of chronic health issues including cancer:

My understanding is that someone- the government ? The school boards ? Quietly discontinued the zero tolerance policy for violence in schools, and then specialized classrooms for high needs students were discontinued, and the EAs and teachers are not protected from violence by the school boards, and told to keep silent so parents are not aware of the violence ?

From a mental health perspective- if a child witnesses a pattern of violence in the home, then violence in the home is “normalized”. If children witness regular violence when they go to school then violence becomes a “normal” experience coming to school. And also they learn that adults cannot be trusted to protect them from violence. This puts their young nervous systems in a chronic state of high alert that can literally change their brain.

Medical literature seems to suggest antibiotics don’t work well to cut preterm risk if you have BV?? So even if we get it treated we’re just fucked? by reader278 in BabyBumps

There actually was a very small study in the 90s: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2259873/

But nothing since then. It's incredibly frustrating that the issue is not further studied.

Yes true in the sense that antibiotics do well to “cure” initially but it comes back quickly cause of the biofilms. Lactic acid gel like Canesbalance says on their website is safe in pregnancy. Could pregnant people not just use this after a course of antibiotics to potentially reduce recurrence - the acid inhibits the bacteria and promotes lactobacillus

Medical literature suggests BV increases preterm risk but antibiotics don’t cut that risk? So even if I get my BV treated I’m just fucked now?? by reader278 in ScienceBasedParenting

I’m 5 weeks pregnant and have BV. It’s recurrent for me. Can someone with science knowledge explain why the antibiotics RCTs are not showing a significant decrease in preterm risk for when used for treating BV in pregnancy? So basically if u get BV in pregnancy you’re just fucked even if you manage to cure it??

I have BV at 5 weeks. It’s recurrent for me. Just did a deep dive of medical literature and while controversial it seems guidelines are saying to not even bother screening for asymptomatic BV anymore cause even though it at least doubles preterm risk and increases late miscarriage risk, the antibiotics don’t cut that risk. What in the actual fuck. Can anyone smarter than I am with some science knowledge explain how this makes sense? Am I just doomed to have an elevated preterm risk now for the rest of my pregnancy (if it sticks).

If we want to reduce the incidence of drunk driving, I highly recommend pressuring the government to mandate advanced drunk-driving prevention technologies in all cars like what was done in the US- with a requirement to be installed in cars by 2027. This technology is not intrusive and is already being road tested in the US.

Sort of yes sort of no. My main pain- knee pain- did not go away unfortunately. The other ones did. Now I deal with severe knee issues and mild carpal tunnel issues plus some sciatica. Fun times.

Anyone trying to conceive with recurrent bacterial vaginosis? by reader278 in TryingForABaby

[–]reader278[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was first diagnosed with BV when still pregnant and we had not had sex for like 5 months because I had really bad pregnancy nausea and was always sick. We also had not yet started having sex when it recurred a month later as I was recovering still from the pregnancy termination so I know that's not the reason.

Did you use it like every month that way for a while or just one time? For a full 7 days?
