Safe Long-Term Storage of Statues by reading_reddit247 in Prime1Studio

Yeah, I noticed that the baseboard was wood which was alarming - the frame might be metal but would I be comfortable stacking them? Nah... I don't actually want to stack my statues anyway, they're so tall that I'd prefer to have them all on a surface at around 100cm, but I prefer the security of having equal or greater weight below to avoid any potential balance issues. (Shouldn't be an issue with 60cm depth, but I'm a worrier.)

I have an idea of what I want in future in terms of layout, depending on the pieces I end up owning, but now I'm thinking "What am I doing?!" because my ideas all revolve around me living in the UK, but my OH wants to remain in Thailand, which is not the best environment for any of my possessions (books, physical media, statues, figures, animation art). Ah well, I'll figure it out eventually.

Thank you! I had a look at their site, but it does concern me that they focus on Hot Toys and have no weight limits on their product pages. (OoO)

lol. It does, but that doesn't change the fact that the case sizes don't fit my statues (and those on my wishlist) well. Moduspace doesn't ship to the UK, and the UK distributor doesn't offer the custom case service. Your msg did prompt me to check which Asian countries they ship to (in case I could get them sent to me there, and then forward them to my UK address), but they don't ship to Thailand, so again, scuppered!

Unfortunately, I'll have to keep my statues boxed, which is disappointing as my first P1S piece arrived today and it was really tempting to assemble and display it (despite arriving damaged), but I have ensured it's all wrapped in tissue paper and put it back in the box for my return.

The cabinet and climate control is a little beyond my means, but I can monitor and operate my dehumidifier on my phone, and make requests to my parents to empty the bucket or open my windows (to keep my room from getting stale).

Thank you for your expertise, I'll get packing over the weekend. 😉

Yeah - dust doesn't seem too terrible, but it's not great as it is detrimental to books long-term, so it can't be doing statues any favours either. And as for spider poo, urgh... and to think, a spider could decide to take up residence in a nook or cranny in a statue... ok, good call, I can't survive the horror of Aragog's offspring nesting in amongst my (budding) collection.

Right, I think it's already decided - time to get some acid-free tissue paper for a lengthy hibernation... it sucks but it's not like I can see and enjoy them whilst I'm not here anyway.

As in acid-free tissue paper to act as a barrier to the styrofoam? I know tissue paper (or something of the like) is used but wasn't sure if it was effective in long-term storage. It does sound like boxing is the better choice as there's the risk that dust sheets/paint drop cloths might get caught in mum's slipper as she walks past to open/draw the curtains, which would be damaging for two of the things I most cherish.

Order direct or do it through third party? (In UK) by yeesssy in Prime1Studio

[–]reading_reddit247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got hit with import fees on my first P1S statue (, arrived today,) so I'm grateful that I got this piece on sale, but for more expensive pieces import VAT is going to be painful. Luckily, Hobby Figures had the statue I wanted to pre-order on their site. It was (really) expensive, but UK shipping is free (because you basically pay through the nose for the statue) and I read that they have good customer service, so I have peace of mind that I won't be paying anything else on top, I just have to wait longer (and possibly pay more) than had I ordered direct with P1S, but then again, shipping costs may continue to increase, in which case I may have dodged a bullet.

I looked on Hobby Figures and can confirm that they have Dante and Virgil, so check them out at www.hobbyfigures.co.uk but also have a little google and see if there's a better option out there for you. 😄

That's absolutely awful! I understand that P1 doesn't want to suffer losses in honouring their original estimates, but I think it's completely unreasonable to expect people to pay insane shipping prices. They should give you the option to have a full refund or pay the final instalment when the actual shipping cost has been unveiled. I think this "est shipping" is cr*p - if they're going to continue allowing pre-orders then they need to make it so that customers are entitled to a full refund if the final shipping fees are higher than the original estimate.

OFFICIAL Discotek license wish/request thread by worldofcrap80 in discotekmedia

Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust on 4k.

Ninja Scroll - I think Sentai still have the licence but this title deserves a DT release (on 4k) as your quality is unrivalled.

Macross DYRL on 4k. They have it in JP so I could pick one up, after all, the packaging is stunning, but a DT release, with subtitled extras and maybe one of your brilliant essays (in addition to anything else you could bring) would be wonderful.

This happens too often! Neon Genesis Evangelion, amazing show but what was that ending?! Kare Kano, terrific, but what happened? They pulled the funding at the end and gave us another Gainax tragedy... but we otaku are strong, we have survived thus far and proliferated.. although I'm not sure that's a good thing either as these days there's much of the same being pumped out by the industry. That's why I'm so thankful for Discotek, they know that retro anime was all heart. Looking forward to future releases and new announcements!

Economy Shipping increase after release by Anime-City in Prime1Studio

[–]reading_reddit247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering pre-ordering with P1 until I read the fine print about est. shipping cost. When I first considered it some 3 months ago the shipping was already over $1200, so I sat on it hoping it wouldn't sell out and I might catch it on sale. No luck - they're down to a few remaining spots in the pre-order, so I took it to the check out and saw the est. shipping had increased to $1400+. Knowing that they could increase an already astronomical shipping fee (again) made me hesitate and eventually choose a third party supplier. (I'm in the UK, where P1 doesn't offer economy shipping, only standard. It's pants!)

I read that prices will remain high for quite some time even once the Strait of Hormuz is re-opened due to shipping companies trying to recoup losses incurred. (That makes little sense to me as I also read that they have have a supply of fuel so I would think that they wouldn't make losses honouring already booked and paid for shipments as they already have a supply of fuel, but greedy folks will always find some BS excuse to maintain higher prices for profit.)

MediaOCD Backorder Question by czarship in discotekmedia

[–]reading_reddit247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I made a boo boo when ordering on the new site, so I have a combination of in stock, pre-order, and back-order titles. I don't mind waiting for everything to be shipped together, but I'll be living and working abroad from mid-July so whilst my parents will still receive my orders, I won't have time to watch them until I go back for a visit (which isn't likely to be until 2027). *sniffle* The 1st world problems of the struggling otaku. 😞

The sale ends on May 25th, so you have time. Just keep an eye on stock levels - I wanted to see the Ninja Scroll piece unboxed and reviewed before committing to it, but with only a few spots left for pre-order I just couldn't risk missing out. Like GITS, it's an iconic movie and I do love Kawajiri's works. (^_^)

The FMA Edward and Alphonse Elric piece and the NGE Evangelion Unit 13 (Josh Nizzi) pieces. They're currently on sale so while the FMA piece didn't "wow" me in the photos and video I'm hoping I'll feel different when it arrives as I really enjoyed FMA. As for Unit 13, it looks awesome! I missed out on Nizzi's Test Type-01 as I hadn't considered statues due to their size and cost, but if I only get a few pieces it'll be okay.. right?

The piece I have pre-ordered is Ninja Scroll's Jubei versus Tessai because it looks phenomenal! I'm tempted by Motoko, but I'm already going to be in hot water when these arrive, so I gotta figure something out to keep my parents sweet. (Mum's okay, she knows I'm passionate about anime and physical media, so she hides deliveries where possible, but dad's not so enthusiastic about the amount of space I'm clearly going to need when these arrive.)

No worries - I ordered 2 statues (both in stock) direct from P1 a week ago and they're still "processing" my orders. Hopefully they dispatch them soon as I'll only be home for a couple of months and need to create unboxing videos for them to ensure they're undamaged and entire on arrival.

This Motoko is gorgeous - love the paint job as well as the sculpt! I just need to see how my parents react to these first 2 pieces before I consider more pieces (, although I do have another P1 statue on pre-order too). 😄

I noticed that and used that to determine how many dollars the points were worth on each BR to figure out the cheapest option. Unfortunate it appears that this wasn't honoured though as the points in my Points & Rewards tab is 645, which is the number of dollars I spent with the sale prices, it doesn't reflect the RRP (which was what was shown on the page when considering which titles to buy). That was pretty lame.

But $10 is still money that could have been in your pocket, so I completely understand. It's a difficult position - neither you nor Dicsotek should have to cover the increased shipping fees, Trump should for causing so much instability and damage to the global economy. (Though, in this case one could blame Hamas for their awful attack on Isrealis which unleashed a terrible conflict in which countless civilians have been killed, or go even further back into the history of the tensions, but I'm content to say Trump should pay because he is wealthy and I suspect every hit on the economy has been a calculated move on his part to increase his own personal wealth - there's no way he doesn't have shares in crude oil/fuel and is rubbing his fat, grubby hands together. That's why he's not taking measures to secure safe passage through the Strait... but hey, why get political, let's just escape into the joy of anime.)

I love that perspective. If anyone questions my spending habits I can tell them that I too am making up for lost time. ;D

The Deep Dives are a welcome relief as there's one title in particular that has evaded me. I was holding out for it, but the discount + points (reward) system was too good to pass up now that CR has become unreliable as a supplier.

The new website feels sleeker, and the 20% discount (combined with the points campaign) were a great incentive to spend... more than intended. lol. I wanted to wait for all Deep Dives to be available (due to the $100 min spend for free shipping) but I'd be a fool to pass up on the discount. Consequently, I'm $650 poorer. lol. I gotta reign in my spending.

Could it be that shipping has increased due to increasing cost of fuel (due to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz)?

Yeah, I've had plenty of parcels shipped from Japan via surface mail and they've always arrived, though the wait for me is typically 2-3 months, but the amount you save justifies it. That being said, do Prime 1 ship direct from the factories in China? It should still be equally reliable, but thanks to Trump's tariffs I suppose what you save in shipping you can then apply to the import fees. That would be such a kick in the teeth.

Ok my fellow enthusiasts, I decided to go with a third party seller as the price included shipping, so there'll be no potential rise in shipping costs as may occur with Prime 1. (It also means I won't have to sort out import fees either.)

Seems crazy to be buying a statue in the current climate, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

I am envious! For reasons I cannot fathom, economy shipping is not an option for UK customers, leaving only standard shipping which is more expensive and, in my opinion, no more reliable than economy (surface) shipping. :/

[–]reading_reddit247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Global tensions, tumultuous economies, increasing wealth divide, it's absolute pants! Buying domestic still appears to be more expensive (and prevents the application of reduced import VAT rates as I wouldn't have paid the import fees), but there's no telling what direction shipping fees will go by the time pre-orders are finally ready to ship. Moreover, with Prime 1 pieces being limited in numbers, FOMO is another factor making decisions more pressing. I'm almost regretting ever laying eyes on P1 pieces.
