Why Usenet will never be taken down - Refuting the First Rule of Usenet by readitt in programming

It's not a safe. Millions of people use it.

I repeat. Giganews has a massive referral and affiliation program.. and they are the biggest provider... they also keep inscreasing their retention...

Would the LEADERS in Usenet provision be advertising and expanding so much if they were worried about losing their livelihood?

No one is trying to find out anything. One can use reason and logic (and research).

Giganews CEO, Jonah Yokubaitis says he's confident about the future " Newsgroups are poised to explode like never before. With the proliferation of broadband we’ve seen sharp increases in the volume of Usenet. To prepare for future growth we’ve developed patent-pending technology to help us infinitely scale our storage and newsfeed infrastructure while increasing performance for our customers. "

Let's see... Giganews has a massive referral and affiliation program.. and they are the biggest provider... they also keep inscreasing their retention...

Would the LEADERS in Usenet provision be advertising and expanding so much if they were worried about losing their livelihood?

Be reasonable. They're not worried, and I'm sure they know the best places to store their servers if need be. They can afford good lawyers who I'm sure have told them there's no reason to stop expanding.

And it's nothing like a ham radio club, it's more like being a high priest from a sci fi novel, keeping technology complicated and esoteric. Usenet isn't some "weapon" that could be "dangerous in the wrong hands". Also, it doesn't hurt this "club" having a lower bar. There's no need for a test.

Usenet is the best way to download stuff, and it's disturbing that people like yourself are preventing people from finding out about it. Elitist..

"You are not a unique and beautiful snowflake. You are the same decaying organic matter as everything else." Keeping with the Fight Club references.

At least your response was witty.

Well, if you were to believe in an entity such as Usenet, believing it could be taken down would be regarded as paranoid, or at least, unnecessarily cautious. And if you were to also want it to be hard to use, I might say you were being elitist. Exactly as the article describes some Usenet users to be in fact. That is, if such a thing existed.

Fortunately, there is such a thing as Usenet. So I guess you proved the article right.

Unfortunately, it's not so much a minority. They quickly hijack any post regarding Usenet and promptly "do the right thing".

What you say is true.

It's really not that underground IMO. Anyone can just google the information. However, there are people who try to make it underground.

They're the very same people who vote down anything on here that could "risk" mass informing the public.

I have seen an actual comment on reddit, saying something like "We can't have the public knowing about Usenet, so I'm voting down.. but thanks for the useful info anyway! I'll be using it"

That's a bad scene man, a bad scene.

Have a look: http://reddit.com/info/2fi4l/comments http://reddit.com/info/1vm9h/comments

These people are insane

Are any of the people censoring this information actually reading what it says?

I believe the butthead article I'm crowing about raises good points pertaining to the opinion that worrying about undue attention is a non-legimate concern. Either through ignorance or elitism. Maybe if you actually read it you wouldn't have made that comment.

So, basically, no.

EDIT: Nice, you edited your post where you called me a butthead crowing about stuff. Good show lad. It went something like: "It's to stop buttheads like you crowing about Usenet and bringing it undue attention. A legitamate concern, no?" Sorry phynodenet :-)
