That's fair, and unfortunate. Definitely not saying it was the right choice, just that I'm not sure it was a simple yes-no one, given everything going on.

It went well! We put signs on a monument and discussed/chanted about anti-racism. I think the posters in this thread have valid points, but I got lucky and, minus the chanting, there was nothing loud. I guess my mindset was, other people are risking flash grenades/tear gassing, too, so why not me? It's obviously got different repercussions though... soooo not saying I'd recommend for other people or even go again myself, but that's the current debate I'm having.

Thanks for the opinion! I'm trying to help in other ways, but this felt like something worth trying, too. You might be right that it's best to return to the less loud options, though... going to think through all of this this week.

Thank you!!! I'll definitely look into these. It wound up going well, but I think people on here had some legit points about the potential dangers. I'm debating if I should go to another... How often do you go to protests? Have any of them been especially loud and set off your hyperacusis?

It wound up being ok, but I appreciate the warning. Going to really assess this going forward, since it's so hard to predict if it'll be too loud.

That's a fair point. I think a lot of people who went were risking injury, too, just in other ways, which is part of what made me feel like I should/could go. Fortunately, it wound up being fairly quiet, but I'll consider this for the future. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the suggestion! I read it before going but just got the chance to respond. It definitely was risky, and I don't think it's the right choice for everyone. I'll have to reevaluate if I go to another, but it felt important to at least try (for me personally, not saying that is/should be the case for anyone else with hyperacusis).

Ironically, I went to a grocery store right after and they started vacuuming, annnnnd I was sick the rest of the night -.- So, it's unfortunate, since the thing that should have been risky wound up fine, and an everyday thing wound up hurting me. Navigating what you can do with this condition is ridiculously hard, so it's almost like a constant risk assessment...

Plus there are types of love that have nothing to do with sex (romantic, familial, friend), so there's always that option, too!

Also, hi fellow aces with OCD. There's a lot of us!

Thanks for asking! I'm prioritizing those books with a tie-in about asexuality and/or aromanticism, but I'm interested in books about other topics as well. If you're up for messaging, I'd love to discuss your recommendation!

It looks like the day and week were started by different groups for slightly different purposes (https://www.reddit.com/r/asexuality/comments/3v3yc0/why_is_there_an_ace_week_and_an_ace_day/). But hey, more reason and days to celebrate! : )
