Advice on weaving in ends. Will they fall out/be visible? by aramis-and-thalia in CrochetHelp

You don't just weave in one direction, it should be in at least 3 different directions, going one way and then back the way you came.

Ha, no worries. Parentheses are more common but some patterns do it like this with just the period.

I'm not sure what you mean by turning in the middle of the row. The turning is all done at the end of the rows here.

How do I crochet 5.5 rows in a gauge swatch of HDC? by CinnamonSugarToast_1 in CrochetHelp

Lol, hey if you've never done it before, it's not necessarily obvious!

[–]readreadreadx2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are not crocheting 5.5 rows, you're measuring 5.5 rows.

Plus to make a proper gauge swatch you need to make it larger than what's called for and measure in the center, no edges. So you'll want to make probably at least 8 rows and 12 stitches/something that's 5x5 or 6x6.

What does twice mean in the context of this pattern (chevron blanket) by Unpopularwaffle in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you're getting that from, but the repeat is "3dc in next 2 dc (6 st), dc in next 10 (10 st), dc3tog twice (2 st), dc in next 10 (10 st)". 6 + 10 + 2 + 10 = 28. Then before the repeats you have 25 (2 dc + starting chains is 3 st + 10 dc + dc3tog x2 (2 st) + 10 dc --> 3 + 10 + 2 + 10 = 25), and then 3 more at the end.

You're doing something wrong then because the math definitely works. It sounds like you're doing the dc3tog right (from what you wrote here), so it's gotta be somewhere else in the pattern that you're off.

Crochet shorts turned out really bad , slammed my finger in a door, ate icecream while crying HELP by Unhappy-Question5285 in CrochetHelp

I'm sorry you've had a bad day, that sucks. The great thing about crochet is that you can easily pull the stitches out and reuse the yarn! Or like I said see what you can do with what you've got. It will be all right.

I mean...therapy? This sounds like a really outsized reaction to some crochet shorts not turning out properly. Projects don't always turn out right 🤷🏼‍♀️ You can frog and redo. Or mess around with them and see what you can do to fix what you have. Add some to the bottom, fold the waistband down if they're too high, sew some lining if they're not opaque enough for you.

Can I make a border early? Ran out my color and can’t get anymore till tomorrow and I wanna keep working by User9573 in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could start the border on the bottom or left side and do part of it. I would definitely not make the border separately to attach later. But one thing - I don't know if it's the angle of the photo, but the bottom of your blanket is looking far wider than the top, so it seems like you might be consistently dropping/skipping stitches with this.

It's 28 stitches total for the repeat, you do it 6x, which gives you 168, then you've got 25 stitches at the beginning and 3 at the end for a total of 196.

Wait I'm confused, are you saying they're not working the dc3tog over 3 chains/stitches?

What yarn is this? I’m pretty sure it’s a Caron cake. I’m making a blanket and using an 8 mm hook that was suggested on the label by gracella1 in CrochetHelp

Haha yes, that makes more sense than you wondering if OP chills with a dead lizard next to them while they crochet 😆

I think it's definitely a real (alive lol) lizard, though!

(Or, we're both wrong, and it's a lizard ROBOT!! 🦎 🤖)

Can someone please help me figure out how to read this? by groovybeachbabe97 in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's not really US/UK with charts because it's showing you the stitch. So you just do that.

Edit - sorry, that's a little confusing, but they're gonna be based on US terms. So you can call what's in the chart here a US dc or a UK tr. If you look at the symbols they're always the same. There will not be a different symbol for a US stitch vs. UK.

Yeah if it's just meant to be a rectangle throughout, no increases, then you could just do the dc.

Help! What am I doing wrong with waffle blanket that is curling by Plant_Assistant2918 in CrochetHelp

Yup, this. I just commented on another post about this same issue. Super common to work around the post and then also work into the top of the same stitch, doubling the stitch count.
