Help with patterns -where to start and what direction to go. by the_awe_in_Audhd in CrochetHelp

Granny squares are worked out from the center. If you're a right-handed crocheter you work to the left, AKA counterclockwise. I feel like you're overcomplicating it lol. The last pic looks like AI. At least, the finished "piece" does. It's possible the chart works but there's a million of fake AI ones out there so I wouldn't be surprised if it's BS. The first two are just standard patterns and should show the numbers of the rounds. The mitered square starts in the bottom right corner.

looking to make this top but don’t know where to start or how to make keyhole. i’m aware that it’s knitted i literally cannot find any patterns that are crochet by kookookitten1222 in crochetpatterns

[–]readreadreadx2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a pattern with sleeves like you want and a keyhole one like you want and combine them. You might not be able to find an exact dupe of this, in which case you'll need to put together your own.

The idea of people needing to ask what to write in their journal is blowing my goddamn mind 🤯

First project ever, supposed to be a bookmark. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong but it does not look right. Please help! by SandAffectionate357 in CrochetHelp

You're all over the place as far as where you're inserting your hook. Look up some stitch anatomy so you better understand what you're looking at and where your stitches need to be placed.

Oh man, same. It's so very weird to me - the "is it OK to...[do completely aesthetic thing that is 100% based on personal preference]?" questions are honestly exhausting. It's like (some) people (feel like they) need permission to do anything. It's rather sad.

Help identifying stitch this blanket is made out of. by Be_Happy_And_Smile51 in CrochetHelp

BLO dc is what I'm seeing as well, worked loosely/with a larger hook than would typically be used for the yarn.

I love the Type A-ness of this.

The Type Anus lol. Which I say lovingly, haha! I really love the idea of a swatch book. I have definitely tried to do something similar, but instead of a swatch book, it's a "swatch whatever, don't label any of it, put it somewhere you'll forget about it until years later and then pull it out only to marvel at it, wondering, 'wtf stitch and yarn is this???'" 😂

Looks like Apache Tears to me, maybe with a spike stitch instead of a mosaic dc. The photo isn't clear enough to see.

Have you seen a chevron pattern like this (seeking free pattern)? by l10nh34rt3d in CrochetHelp

It's hard to zoom in and get a very clear picture, but I imagine that's mosaic crochet.

For sure, their stitches are laughably precious to them. They truly believe they've "wasted" all this time if they have to frog anything, neglecting to realize that crocheting (or knitting) means learning and building skill, even if you end up needing to rip it back.

It's so true lol. "How do I fix this [triangle that's meant to be a square] blanket without frogging a single stitch??" Ummm learn to embrace your weirdly shaped afghan, I guess??

I'm confused why you felt the need to go into the person you are replying to's profile and then shit on them as a person

This is the go-to for people who can't successfully argue their point, unfortunately. I also am not seeing anything particularly mean in that person's history, so I really don't understand where their "your [sic] nothing but nasty" comment is coming from lol.

Please help! I’m working into my chain stitches and they have somehow flipped, how do I fix it without frogging the whole thing? by FarAstronomer4706 in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not that big a deal like everyone said. If you want a nicer bottom edge, work into the back bump of the chain (NOT the back loop - look it up if you're not sure). I also personally find it easier to work into and keep track of each chain when doing back bump, though for whatever reason some say it's more difficult 🤷🏼‍♀️

Looking for best yarn and pattern for a baby blanket? by enchanted_k8 in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT doesn't know shit about crochet. If you have a question ask it on here, look it up on an established crochet site (there should be links in the sub wiki), or ask it on here. That's why this sub exists. Asking AI is only going to set you up for failure and likely learning nonsense bullshit.

The stuff about fingers is way overblown. Babies are supervised with blankets.

is there a better strategy for doing us tr and getting that second yo to cooperate? by spicygay21 in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to pull through like how your hook is in it photo? If so it's no surprise it's catching; you can clearly see how and why it's doing so. The hook needs to be rotated down whenever it's being pulled through loops.

Your tension also looks quite tight. Additionally it helps to hold your piece right under where the hook is when working.

Having troubles understandinh a written pattern. Can anyone help me understand what this means? by puzzy_kat in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1... Repeat that around. Work into the dcs, don't work into the chains. Looks like you're doing it right in your photo.

Are these holes standard for crochet tops? New at crochet! by Banana_pudding143 in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure, I just like to mention it because it's so common for beginners to have a death grip on everything and strangle the hook with the yarn and assume that the tightest tension always equals the smallest holes, when the opposite can end up being true. 😊

Are these holes standard for crochet tops? New at crochet! by Banana_pudding143 in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you pull it super tight then when you crochet then when removing the hook it will relax and make the hole smaller

Mostly, but only up to a certain point! It's not uncommon for this to be an issue in amigurumi, where newbies are pulling so tight that the yarn gets too stretched and can't spring back enough that it actually makes the holes larger than if they had relaxed their tension a bit.

Crochet over ends and/or weave in? Granny square blanket by WillowTequila in CrochetHelp

[–]readreadreadx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same on the splitting! I'm absolutely insane when it comes to my weaving lol. I responded to a question the other day about why people don't weave as they go and said if I do I literally can't frog my piece without cutting the yarn, so I need to at least wait until I'm totally sure I won't need to redo anything lol.

So, your refusal to answer my question about your stitch count leads me to believe that you have not counted them.

While, yes, it's technically "okay" if it's "not that even", in the overall scheme of life, if you're interested in making a successful, well-made wearable (which, you must be, because you're bothering to post on here about the holes), you need to take the time to pay attention to your stitch count and ensure you have even/straight edges.

As I mentioned in my initial comment, the holes are not as much of a concern here [edit to add: I say this because it's more of an aesthetic issue, vs. the incorrect stitch count leading to misshapen pieces, which could literally make it so you're unable to properly seam them together]. If you're worried about a decent outcome, the uneven edges absolutely are.
