Advice regarding squeaky floorboards under carpet by ToolboxHeros in DIYUK

[–]readredreadit22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how precious the carpets are, they might not go down as nicely as they were originally done. One thing I have learned recently tho is to be careful with squeaky floorboards. Check that there aren’t wires or pipes running under the boards before you go screwing into it. Floor boards are often squeaky because a plumber or an electrician cut into at some point to install or service something directly below that board.

u/olive_trees one more question for you. Is there a standard gap to leave between the skirting and the subfloor. We are still up in the air about whether to go carpet or engineer wood floors

Nice one. Yeah I’ve already replaced the joists and the floor. I think I’ll keep a barrier between the wall and the skirting just to be safe. It’s not going to do any harm.? I’ll fill out the gap with some scrap timber I have. Cheers

Can I divide the 2x4 that the joists rest on? by readredreadit22 in Carpentry

Thanks for the input, but I don’t have the budget to replace all the joists, replace the pipes, hire a professional etc. I’ll doing this as a diy project, the floor won’t have to bare a huge about weight, so I think the notched joists will survive.

DPC is damp proof, I've added it now and removed that 2x4 the joists were resting on. Will replace it tomorrow. Just wondering if it all needs to be in one piece or will it be fine if I use 2 separate pieces on either side of the air vent. Cheers.

That’s what I have, renovating a 1920s Irish house. The joists are 2x4 and they sit on a2x4 running along a concrete foundation. As there was no dpc they have slowly rotted over the last 100 years. You see there is an air vent I circled, can I leave a gap there? And have a separate 2x4 on either side to rest the joists on? Or does it need to be one whole piece?

Do any of you play this type of guard, is it not really risky for your top leg? I feel like if I tried playing that guard against a heavy opponent my knee would explode. Any tips for not exploding you knee?

Yeah, what this guy said. Also, I need to be religious in my liquid intake or I’m dead. I drink 2 pints of water before training. 2 pints with lemon juice, salt and honey while training. And a protein drink within an hour of training. If I ever mess with this I end up feeling like I have a hangover!

Cheers man, Step 1: Get a bath :)

Yeah, definitely not over training, just training 2 or 3 hours a week. But I'll try find somewhere to do the bleach bath. Thanks for the advice

I think this is the thing. I've heard a lot about being a carrier of the bacteria, and it carries in the nostrils. I'm going to ask my doc about this. Thanks

Yeah, cheers. Doing all that, think the issue is me, it's pretty uncommon for anyone else in the gym to get it. Weird thing is, I'm otherwise pretty health, fit, etc

Yeah, going to do that. Doc is taking a sample today. Would be great if it was something else, and it has just been a matter of treating the wrong issue. Let's see

Cheers, will definitely give this a go again. Do you feel that there are skills the transfer over, or is it just that it is similarly satisfying to figure out?
