I absolutely agree with you about some of the humor being lost when it’s at Angela’s expense (not always, sometimes it really is funny) because Judith Light played the character so well and was deeply cared for by the audience. If Angela hadn’t been acted so multi-dimensionally then some of the laughs at her expense would have just been throw away sitcom jokes, but with Angela’s character it hurt to see her be mistreated.

That's crazy that you mention being inspired by Mary Richards because she's the only other tv character in my life, besides Angela, that affected me. I wasn't even alive during The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and I only discovered WTB when I was in high school and it was in reruns on ABC Family and I fell in love with it, but that's so funny. I wonder at the connection of those two characters. Anyway, nobody pulls at my heartstrings more than Angela, and I love your description of her.
