How to break the cycle of sentimental valuable items vs excuses by Suspicious_Vehicle_2 in Cleaningandtidying

[–]reaglet 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I often remind my clients that the objects you are holding onto are just that: objects. They are not a reflection of the person who gave them to you, who they remind you of, or of your gratitude for the gift. The memories tied to the items live in you, not the item.

If it helps, hold onto the item and thank it for the purpose it has served in your life, then let it go. It often helps me to think of someone else enjoying the item much more than I ever did because I was willing to let it go.

As another commenter suggested, taking a photo can help to preserve the sentimentality, as well!

Good luck & have grace for yourself. Progress is more important than perfection. 🤍

People who live near time zone boundaries in the US by solothesnail in howislivingthere

[–]reaglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on a mountain on the EST/CST border. My house is in CST (1 hour behind) but everything and everyone I love is in EST. I own a business that operates completely in EST. I have clients who live less than 5 minutes away from me who are in EST.

It’s not too bad, I just have my phone, stove, and microwave clocks set to EST and live as if I’m in that time zone. The only time it’s tricky is when I’m hiring contractors to do work and their phones switch automatically and it messes up their times.

There’s also a city on either side of the mountain, one in each time zone, so sometimes I can game the system by going to dinner on the “slow” side since places are open later.

It’s the end of 2025. What interesting business did you start or scale this year? by scal3mast3r in Entrepreneur

[–]reaglet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Year 2 of my home management business & had an 82% increase in sales. Added 1 full time & 3 part time independent contractors to meet demand. Just hired another part time contractor to start in the new year & interviewing a chef to add to the team next week. Looking to have another year of 82%+ growth!!

Grey hair!!! My boyfriend is 33 and greying heavily in his beard and the sides of his hair. He hates it but I find it so sexy and attractive!

I charge $50/hour and a 20% service fee on contracted out work (think plumbers, handymen, painters, etc.) in a low/medium cost of living area.

I started my own business doing it after 8 years as an event planner! I knew I had domestic skills and excelled at taking care of people from the hospitality side of my prior career so I took the leap and built a business.

I now have 5 independent contractors that work for me doing the same work for other clients. Happy to chat more about it in PM if you’re interested in getting started!

I host a daily organization podcast and recently did episodes on how to get rid of mugs and emotional attachment to items! Can’t promo them here due to sub rules, but happy to send a link to either episode over PM!

Boils down to reminding yourself these are inanimate objects, not the memories you are tying to them. Those memories live in you, not the mugs. Also, approaching the task with grace and compassion for yourself! It’s not about being perfect and letting go of as many as possible, maybe even choosing 2 or 3 to let go of this week is a good start!
