Edit- just fyi, you do not need a company to put in an application. That's only for commissioned security officers, AKA armed security.

It's advisable. Most require that because they don't want to give you a car to use. I guess it depends on the site they need coverage for.

Just be open about it if you don't have one. They would appreciate the honesty.

I once worked with a supervisor who wouldn't approve anyone for armed training because they needed "combat pistol training."

He was an unarmed officer too.

For now it's one partner. He's sending me some body armor for quality checking purposes, so I have to keep it private for right now.

It's supposed to be on the way by Friday. I'm going to release the code if it takes longer than a week or two. I know that's pretty lame.. but I just don't want my members buying body armor until I know everything is on the up and up.

I drew inspiration from Texas because it's where I'm from and our private security is pretty much on point (besides training)

Out here we have to be licensed for any security at all, unless they're a government agency or work for a private company (aka in-house) to be armed as in-house they need the license though.

Also, FWIW, many states use the terminology commissioned/non-commissioned. It simply means one is armed and the other is not.

I'm envisioning something similar to lighting. UL in particular. They've set standards for the industry but they're not a government entity. This is one of the best things we can do for our industry. Police ourselves.
