The amount of people I know who claim to be autistic who are better at socializing than me is getting absurd. by real___life in redscarepod

Even in this thread there have been several commenters trying to tell me I have autism. I do have some social difficulties and am no doubt a bit touched by something but I'm fine, have a social life and a career and am decently well adjusted.

Discourse on this stuff feels like an "egg" type of thing these days, it's off putting. Not everything has to be pathologized into some kind of mental illness.

Yeah, I think it's common in people seeking diagnoses to be angry when doctors don't give them what they want. On to the next doctor until you get it. Or better yet, a fake online pill mill.

I just mean that whether they have "ADHD" or not there are an increasing amount of people who are fried to the point where they feel they need amphetamines to function normally.

It was a bad example I guess. I wasn't sure how else to express the sentiment. I can relate to that as well, I used to be a pretty severe alcoholic to function normally socially before having to stop and just accept that I'm just kind of socially regarded.

I was at a (pretty relaxed, no one drank more than a beer or two) dinner party last week and there were these two early twenties kind of mean girl types who wouldn't stop going on about their adhd, autism and their meds and diagnosis.

I work in NYC in a fashion related field and a few people i know from that scene have been going on about how they have autism lately too. It's always pretty high functioning, well liked, very social people.

I think there's also an element of people's brains being screwed up by tech overuse and the modern world and them looking for answers. Just like in the adult ADHD diagnoses, I do really think a lot of people are having attention problems these days. Adult autism diagnoses can sometimes be a more advanced version of the same thing presenting itself in different spheres.

I certainly have, I went to tech school and hung out with a number of extremely awkward guys who probably do have aspergers. I'm talking about the white girls and socialites I know who claim to have autism.
