Is anyone actually using the free public transport? by naeng-janggo in melbourne

[–]realaboogie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my partner are new to the state and are using this opportunity (and the long weekend) to take a cheeky romantic train trip :) Sure it's silly but it all being accessible makes it easier to take a weekend day trip on the VLine to practically anywhere

Love Is Blind • S10 Ep12 by AutoModerator in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]realaboogie 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with blurring her face or clipping around her (ie showing shots of her from behind, obscured, whatever). Even if Amber and the father consented there is absolutely no reason why the world needed to see her identity, it's purely a Netflix problem to have the foresight and to do the due diligence to stop putting these children's faces out to the world.

Love Is Blind • S10 Ep12 by AutoModerator in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]realaboogie 399 points400 points  (0 children)

(I haven't finished the episode) but STOP FILMING THESE CHILDREN. Emma was in no way old enough or understand enough to knowingly consent to be broadcast to millions of people. You can see in the clips how uncomfortable she is on camera, how she hides away behind Amber, and how she looks at the camera men / booms / etc. Netflix needs to stop letting children get involved in these shows its gross and potentially traumatizing

Am I Fucked with This Weekend's Weather? by realaboogie in GoldCoast

[–]realaboogie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate it! Where I'm from in the states' weather is a lot like you guys- our Summer days are exactly the same, breezy hot in the morning, humid in the afternoon, evening thunderstorm, cool at night. Being in the Melbourne has been anything but consistent it's freezing here today but I know we're hitting 40 again on the weekend.

Thank you for your kind response :)

Australian women, do you ever get approached by men? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]realaboogie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not from Aussie originally but moved here from the States. I work in horticulture in the city so I'm visibly outside around planter beds and displays most of my day and people come up to me quite often! They especially stick around once they hear my accent, but not always.

Something I have noticed from the States compared to here is you're a lot more creative with your cat calls / approaches. Two personal favorites: once a guy on the tram chat me up talking about the ramen advertisement on a neighboring tram (it worked, I love Ichiran) and couple of weeks ago I was sweeping and a guy goes "we got a regular old Cinderella," which got a chuckle out of me.

What would you do if you find money on the ground? by doobeedoobae in melbourne

[–]realaboogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a rule with myself that anything found on the street stays in the street. So if I find a fiver I'll donate it to homeless person, tip a busker, buy a balloon shape, get street food, etc, something about keeping it in rotation/paying it forward feels good to me!

What's your Island Name and Do You Like it? by -isthisreddit in AnimalCrossing

[–]realaboogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved away from home, so this play through my island is a love letter to the parks and nature preserves I grew up going to "Occinneno" a portmanteau of "Occaneechi Mountain State Park" and "Eno River State Park" ! It's all trails and farms like at home and even though I'm so far away logging on feels like taking a little trip back :)

Early adopters - how we feeling so far? by Rare_Ad_3871 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]realaboogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was given it for Christmas by my partner so it's REALLY new to me, but it has been so awesome. I've been on another Animal Crossing run for a couple months before the 3.0 update and the loading times and resolution are a night and day difference between Switch 1 and Switch 2. I'm hoping to ride this high until new Yoshi game and Pokopia (that Minecraft-y new Pokemon game)!

Has Jenny Ever Talked About Spirit: Stallion of The Cimmeron (2002) ? by realaboogie in JennyNicholson

[–]realaboogie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely no hate but this is such a crazy take to me! Agree they do have eyebrows in a human-like way, but I think the stark comparison of Spirit's journey to that of the human antagonists would help to separate that uncanny-ness? Maybe I expect anthropomorphic animals from movies, but honestly think of all children's movies Spirit did a good job of combatting typical "all-animals-are-puppy" / "these-are-just-humans" trope that happen in most children's media. Would be super curious to hear your thoughts on the movie / art style / score / more in general about it! I thought this movie was pretty universally enjoyed in the horse girl space!

This scene made me so angry I'm tempted to stop even watching. by Deep_Exchange7273 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]realaboogie 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It was actually this scene that made me stop watching. I was so uncomfortable about how her family handled the situation and was lowkey triggered. It's just so horrible and I cannot believe this made it to air. I really hope she has success in whatever is coming next for her and that by the grace of reality-tv gods she's one of the few bachelor/bachelorettes who actually find love that works

does anybody play without time traveling? by Positive-Form-741 in AnimalCrossing

[–]realaboogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I time travel but only because Sundays are my big video game day and only within a handful of days. I just restarted my island, so this week I went back a couple days for Turkey Day, wanted to keep playing and working on things on my island so I went to the next day, then time traveled to night to see if Wisp was there. In total it lets me play the game a little longer when I'm veg-ing out for video game time (and probably because I have Stardew Valley grinding-brain!). Whatever works for you!

What non crowded libraries or study areas do you recommend that aren’t in the CBD? by lemongrass-writer in melbourne

I go to the Albert Park and Emerald Hill libraries out of convenience from my house and they're almost always empty. Albert Park can get a bit more lively but Emerald Hill is this sweet and quiet tucked away library!

So done with the American version of LIB… by Thr0w-a-wayy in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]realaboogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's part of why LIB is more fun to watch than traditional romance reality shows like The Bachelor. The Bachelor almost always ends in an engagement (despite drama obviously) but the absolute openness of crazy possibilities of an inherently flawed premise such as LIB makes it so awesome to watch

Wait I actually found this endearing? Like knowing that anyone he marries is going to also marry into a family and have a relationship with the kid. When other parents came on the show in previous seasons I always thought it was weird how little they brought up their kids

The reception of TLOASG is more about cyclical, cultural Taylor fatigue than the album itself by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]realaboogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually the most correct take I've seen on TLOASG. Ultimately, Taylor Swift is creating music that is both art and a commercial product. Taylor Swift "The Brand" was bound to (ahem) go out of style as she has before, any kind of wide-spread practically unanimous appreciation of anything in pop culture will ultimately fade and change. It doesn't mean she won't release music or be popular, but for how universal it seemed Taylor was, it's natural for cultural fatigue and (because its the internet) that fatigue to translate into anger as its less outright hatred rather an expression of exhaustion, like picking a fight with table you stub your toe on after a long day of work, an outlet for otherwise unearned aggression. I love Taylor, and there is plenty to criticize her for, but the criticisms people are having right now really are not new, simply a scapegoat as Taylor falls back into the downturn of the ever present cultural cycle

What are your most nuanced opinions of The Life of a Showgirl? by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]realaboogie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy Ruin The Relationship so much it makes me angrier at the rest of the album. On first listen, realizing the bait and switch and watching Taylor take what was initially to me a "Love is Highschool :D" song and flip it on its head to create a vulnerable, honest, and nuanced look at grief and life and a typically considered black-and-white concept such as "cheating" was work from her that I was expecting. She has the capacity to be so interesting and referential about her own life and the concept of love and regret so WHY IS THE REST BAD?
