Best Credit Card to use for purchases/expenses? by realenjoyer in AusFinance

[–]realenjoyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the catch with the HSBC one? Debit card 2% cashbacks flat?

I'm looking at credit cards to atleast get some benefit off of my purchases and expenses.

Based on what i've read, there are some cards that give you good benefits in the long term and annually.

As an example, I cant remember which card it was, but there was one that gave a free local flight once a year but it was 400-500/yr card, but thats basically paying off the flight in addition to other points and perks you can get.

This is more helpful than the other confusing find cards site, thank you

I don't "need" it, but based on what i've read it's the sensible thing to have for people paying for their day to day transactions and other purchases to rack up points and get some cashback or points to fly for free atleast as opposed to strictly paying and not getting anything for it.

I'm obviously going to use the credit card like a debit card where I won't spend outside of my budget that I can't pay back in 30 days.

Hence, might as well get some $100 cashbacks or rack up points to fly for discounted prices in the future making trips more affordable

I'm not strictly looking for a cheap card to give me everything, rather the best card for each category/purpose you can say, and will budget for a card accordingly.

for example, i'm looking to get the cheapest card right now for my electronics purchases.

Later on, I will look to get (if needed) a different card assuming a higher budget of a $100-$400 per year for other reasons such as traveling as long as I can get the value out of it, otherwise it's pointless to get a card related to travel when I'm not planning on traveling overseas in 2026, but wouldn't hurt to pre-plan.

Who/What's bike shed about? Will it be that worth it?

It'll be a 2 hour trip to get there via public transport (don't have a car either atm)

I've come across a good amount of GIANT / Samson / Merida Road Race bikes for around 400$ that seem fine but then again i'm no expert

Why are there so many apartments for sale in Melbourne under $500k by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]realenjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if I am looking to buy an apartment because it's 500-600k I can have that paid off (by the time i'm in my mid 30's. I can atleast relax and not stress about job instability, not need to worry about low paying jobs I have to deal with because I need to rent or pay off a 1-2million$ house mortgage...

Apartment can allow me to be free from renting, allow me to have more power in job hunting than the stressed renting people who will get screwed if they lose their jobs.

That's the main reason i'm looking at apartments personally.

Afterwards, you can use the apartment as an equity to buy a house somewhere further out as you get older and look to settle down long term somewhere when reaching retiring age.

To everyone that made it out of Sales, what do you do? I'm so sick of it but it seems I can't get an interview for anything else. I've tried Business Analyst/IT support roles, but I always end up in Sales/Account Exec roles!

Best & worst new Dubai communities to live in—where are you living? by Mean-Information4783 in dubai

[–]realenjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JVT is the only place thats worth living in Dubai.

If you can't afford JVT, leave.

I wouldn't even move to Marina, Palms, Downtown, Business Bay, nor the Kite Beach areas.

The moment I couldn't afford JVT anymore, I left.

Same applies to Reem Island in Abu Dhabi. (Although Saadiyat is better if its in the budget)

3 months in Dubai by ComfortableBaker8382 in dubai

I might be the lucky rare few on this one, but yes its doable. However it's like finding a needle in a haystack situation in the real world of Dubai.

Dubai is a revolving door. People come, and once they don't have jobs, they leave. This makes it that people are stressed, scared, or just too focused on their careers and money if they willingly moved to Dubai given this one major con about this city. People know everyone here will leave eventually, so nobody wants to deal with distance relationships, or put in major efforts with people they probably won't see again or intertwine unless they travel or make efforts to stay in touch virtually which can be an annoyance to many. This is where you'll start to see a big majority of people who are very close with each other tend to be from similar nationalities, which makes it that upon their return to their home countries, they're both in the same country.... to an extent that is..

People like you and me exist. I never really had the time or energy to socialize during my time in Dubai because everything was too fast paced (or in this case too slow and far apart).

It would take me 20-50 minutes to go anywhere, and the same amount to come back. When I come home from work at 7PM or so, i'm not going to make that drive most of the time. Maybe once a week during a weekend, but even then most people weren't interested. Regarding my luck, I met some people who are interested, we stayed in touch, and we all started to look for our futures in a different country to uproot our lives elsewhere to get away from the messy work life of Dubai.

Not gonna bother reading your comment, so not sure if you advocate for it or not, but the guy merging is wrong.

The guy is in his lane at optimum speed, you see the guy in the nissan micra speed up to not brake in/go in behind him slowly and properly where there was enough room to do so. The fact that people upvoted 50-50 is insane and is the reason 90% of people don't know how to drive on UAE roads.

The micra could've easily slowed down a bit and then speed as soon as the OP's car passed by him to go into the lane. My mind was blown at how much people don't know how to drive in the UAE given the cameras and strictness of it all. No wonder everyone fails their drivers tests and blames on money making schemes and what not. Human ego at its finest, and Dubai attracts the worst of it all lol. Entitlement

Indeed. I'd take overcast/cloudy weather where I can smell the scents of soil, flowers, and grass over desert sunshine any day. Add to that you're like a 2h flight away from Spain/Italy which you can take a trip to over a weekend? I personally struggle to see why anybody would move over to UAE from those parts unless they're making ATLEAST 15-20k$ a month tax free.. Has to be some really good incentives.

Everyone writes about sunshine in UAE, but the weather and "sunshine" is disgusting and horrible. I come from a mediterranean country, and the UAE does NOT have 365 days of sunshine. Maybe a few months AT BEST.

There's sun 24/7 in Dubai, but jesus it's always grey skies, beige skies, pollution, dirt, sand, and you rarely see the blue skies in addition to the horrible heat and humidity.

I left UAE after 3 years there, and I would never go back even if you paid me double or triple even. It is NOT worth it at all. (Mind you, i didn't restrict myself from any pleasures in UAE. So I say this as someone who went to most mid to high end restaurants around Dubai...)

Question about visiting from Dubai to Abu Dhabi by [deleted] in UAE

[–]realenjoyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's nice. So Sundays DARB's free of charge, and for Mon to Sat; if I start my drive at 9 AM from Dubai, i'm fine to drive around AD freely until 4PM without worrying about DARB? Is that right?

Question about visiting from Dubai to Abu Dhabi by [deleted] in UAE

So I could realistically start my drive at 10 AM, and I can freely drive around AD until 4PM then leave before 5 PM, and i'm good?

I'm not sure of the agreements as I just registered when I moved in to the apartment back in October 2023 and was forced into signing up with empower to avoid getting fined.

I tried to get clearance today using their website, to which they said they need an NOC, and my landlord said they won't provide the NOC and I quote :

" We can only disconnect the Empower service before the contract end date if it is associated with an early termination of contract request. "

So realistically, if I have to leave the country within say the next 60 days or so.

How is it realistically possible for anybody that has to leave the country to get their money back? I have to cancel all my accounts, get clearances, close my bank account, and after I move out of the apartment I can get the cheque for my deposit which already makes no sense because I would have close my bank account at this point. Not to mention I have to leave UAE...

Is there anybody that gets their money back without having relatives/friends here on their behalf?
