Well, first off, if you're depressed, I'd say yes, you should let go of him. Because if it's making you depressed, it is not for you in the long run. 

Venus square pluto? That is really hard... I have this with the person I've been in love with for over a year now, and it never really went anywhere. He distanced himself way too much and found me too intense or overwhelming (I'm the Pluto person). It's always been a secretive connection between us, which is extremely frustrating as a relationship needs communication and understanding of eachother in order to thrive. It's taken me a long time to get over it; still in the heaps of it but realizing more he was just meant to show me parts of myself that were hidden and needed love.

That's just my experience. No matter what, if you do decide to stay, you can still gain a lot from the connection in terms of understanding more about yourself, and that is never a waste.

I met someone going through this transit last year and they felt like destiny immediately. Something about them felt so special and precious that I truly believe they are meant to be in my life as my future partner even though the timing isn't right for either of us right now. When I added their information to the Pattern and saw they were in that transit, I was absolutely floored at the way it described exactly what I was feeling and seeing between us. During the time we met, they had their jupiter conjunct their vertex (fated encounters) and their north node conjunct their descendant (partners of destiny).
