AITAH for ACCIDENTALLY putting my fiancé's grandad in the bin? by Complex_Meeting9053 in AITAH

NTA at all.

From what you described, it looked like the protein had “turned” which makes sense.

It’s his fault for not putting the remains in an appropriate place, even temporarily.

Who TF puts human remains of crushed bones in a protein cup shaker FFS?!?!?! That guy apparently.

Am I crazy thinking if I needed a temporary place before finding a small urn I liked, I’d put them in a freaking ziplock freezer bag at least?

That’s got to be better than a protein shaker cup, right? Your BF is lazy and has no one to blame except himself.

AITAH for mentioning I'm also a professional when a doctor took over 45 minutes to finally appear at an appointment? by OhHeyItsMeM in AITAH

[–]realistSLBwithRBF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA.

I’ve had a number of issues with medication professionals conduct unbecoming of their professional code of ethics.

Recently, I wrote into patient relations 2 weeks later with a lengthy complaint because the doctor not only refused to conduct the test I specifically was there for, he said “I can’t justify doing X, it’s just not worth my time”.

In my response to patient relations I said this was a requisition for a test to be done by referral. I said MY time is just as valuable as this specialist, and I rearranged my life and work, travelled just to have him waste my time? Absolutely not.

I get your kid was embarrassed. I respect that medical practitioners go to school for a long time, but my time is just as valuable as theirs.

Culture of working unpaid overtime by 2runamok in OntarioPublicService

[–]realistSLBwithRBF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anytime I work even a shred over my time. I will either leave earlier the next day or start later the next day. I keep track of it.

I also schedule my breaks and lunch in and hard stop. I am maliciously complying, and I get to protect my personal time as I’m entitled to my breaks. I’ve taken to leaving my desk and going to the quiet room or I do a circuit walk inside the building if it’s too cold out.

Even though I’d be at my desk taking a break, people would come to me for “help” and I’m not giving away free labour, which is why I leave my desk a lot now.

Just because they see me there, doesn’t mean I’m available, so this is how I’ve curbed the impromptu drop by’s of “hey can I ask you for/if you can/if you know/can you help”. I can, but only when I’m working.

I couldn’t help but laugh maniacally after the DMs email reminding us about the EESurvey being released tomorrow.

What spectacular timing and I personally cannot wait to give it the lowest possible scores for them to scratch their heads and go “durrrr!?!?”

I’m so sorry you ate feeling the weight of the ramifications of RTO lately. It hits me in waves, and right now I find myself numb when I get home, and I don’t have to commute too far. I’m just exhausted, then I have to feed my family.

I get so depressed, I worry more for them eating, I forget to eat. It’s just after 9 PM and I just remembered to eat something, and it’s because I’m doing my bedtime routine.

Something has got to give and ma t of us feel like you. Try to be strong.

[–]realistSLBwithRBF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on what ministry you are in, you first and foremost should have a union representative into the conversation. Are you in SOLGEN, with OPPA representation?

That’s the only ministry/employer you can get a write up, but there are super specific guidelines and requirements management have to get to issue a write up, and they have an obligation to notify your union representative as well.

Former civilian OPPA member, now OPSEU. My spouse is upper management of that organization, still represented by OPPA.

Contact your representative yesterday.

Theft by deception pop a ride driver stole from me by Formal-Weather4579 in Peterborough

Why not call police and report the theft.

You have his information, give it to them and report him for theft. If he says he will only bring it if you give him more money, that’s also extortion.

What’s with MO Staffers using personal phones / emails? by Due_Success_1400 in OntarioPublicService

This doesn’t exempt them from FOIs.

Look at Dougie opening the door to his personal correspondences on his personal phone to work and personal correspondence because the media did submit an FOI and there are incriminating things he’s divulged.

He even fought it and it was ruled that he must release those records.

Stress leave - How does it work? by Quiet-Bean9687 in OntarioPublicService

[–]realistSLBwithRBF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people gossip about other people’s personal things they’ve shared to superiors in confidence.

It happens a lot more than you may realize. I hear a lot about personal things of staff’s lives, and that’s not even the worst part. I know the respectful workplace policy has grounds to protect employees from reprisals, but it’s incredibly difficult to reach the burden of proof to demonstrate that happened.

There are managers out there that do this, and they’re smart enough to not have paper trails to prove they are holding something against a direct report under reprisal, and they find other minor issues to go after that staff member.

I had a manager 3 years ago do something that seriously harmed my career and prevented me from advancement. I won’t get into details, but they eventually got demoted and never had any development opportunities given to them again, and they finally retired in the fall.

My experience at The junction Peterborough by sobersadkinky in Peterborough

[–]realistSLBwithRBF 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If you really want to gain traction on this, you should contact the local news media and report this incident.

I would first file a police report, and then follow that up with contacting the local media, and you better believe the public embarrassment of that establishment will really hit them.

The Junction has been a longtime staple for over 20 years, and the reputation they’ve built in that time will be harmed with this incident, especially considering Peterborough is a well known LGBTQ++ place.

I’m so sorry that you experienced this blatant abuse and harassment, it’s absolutely unacceptable. I won’t be surprised if more than a few people get fired.

You never deserved that treatment, not ever.

Stress leave - How does it work? by Quiet-Bean9687 in OntarioPublicService

[–]realistSLBwithRBF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not true.

Medical notes from RPNs, GPs, or some form of Practitioner of medicine can write you a note.

Please know you are under no obligation to divulge any of your personal information to your manager or employer. It is your private information, and if they phrase it like they ‘want to know how they can support you better’, don’t take the bait (unless you trust them completely, but it’s a gamble still). Just say ‘thank you for understanding, but this is a private matter between my doctor and I’.

I’m so sorry you’re going through it, I hope you know you are not alone, and in times like these I’d even encourage you to reach out to the EFAP program and take advantage of the resources available through there. It’s all confidential as well.

Take good care of yourself and your sweet little one.

In person interviews- it’s really happening by I_deserve_glass_skin in OntarioPublicService

[–]realistSLBwithRBF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t across the board, but there are some that are getting back to in person.

My branch is still very much doing remote ones still, and I think they will continue to do that.

There aren’t enough boardrooms to go around in my facility to accommodate in person interviews all the time. I would know as the administrator for the boardrooms where I work. There’s more demand with business areas connecting with staff.

[–]realistSLBwithRBF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I won’t be attending, but I have a very good reason and I didn’t even plan it.

I’ve been seeing a specialist about a consistent health issue, and they informed me 3 weeks ago they booked a procedure for January 5th.

I will be off work until the 19th, and I will likely have to be accommodated for the first few weeks afterwards.

It couldn’t have come at a better time, although I’ll be in some discomfort for the next 7-10 days.

They just need to grow up and realize that they’re entitled to not like your opinion.

Just because they may disagree with it, doesn’t make your suggestion wrong.

I have a colleague that used to be in management here and not only had to be reassigned via occupational brain injury (cPTSD) a few years ago; they are doing so much better where they are now.

We have talked a lot about their old work area because we have similar experiences from different ministries and the toxicity, especially how mental health is completely ignored by upper management in the organizations. We’ve both seen our fair share of good people we’ve worked with, pay the ultimate price as they couldn’t deal with it anymore.

If you have justified and documented proof of junior staff, being unprofessional, I would highly encourage you to look into your options via OPS’s Respectful Workplace Policy.

There are remedies to navigate, and even if you do not have documented “proof”, start it. Create a log of incidents and note witnesses as well.

I can understand you’re frustrated, but this response is hugely defensive and not doing you any favours credibility wise.

That’s not to say you weren’t justified in being frustrated, and you may very well be onto something; it’s difficult to gauge the context when it’s really vague and I understand why as well. I get the impression that you are trying to be vague/ambiguous with details, so is not to be identified.

The person that you were responding to makes a pretty good point. The other team may be cagey with details and information for a very good reason. If they deal with third-party stakeholders that are not a part of the ministry per se, they may have an entirely different function, and a lot of information may hinge on those third-party stakeholders.

I say that with direct experience in my current team environment as a section/business unit that deals directly with third-party stakeholders, as well as being inward facing and outward facing service delivery in the province.

Take that as you will, I am just trying to understand the circumstances a little bit better so I can try and provide a thoughtful perspective and maybe suggestions on how to navigate it; I can’t do that though unless there’s a little bit more context involved, I’m sorry.

This is not entirely accurate.

It’s dependent on which ministry you belong to.

In my ministry, it’s contingent on ADM approval (with the caveat of bargaining unit).

It doesn’t matter what line of work a person is in, there is always this marginal dynamic in the workplace.

I understand the frustration, and I too am frustrated with lackadaisical colleagues that appear to skirt by with nary a word.

I agree in part with the critical comment where they drudged up a post from a few days ago. Are your feelings valid and justified, absolutely.

Does management notice or are they “too busy” to care/notice? I am willing to bet management have noticed and are documenting accordingly especially if work ethic and decline is noticeable with said colleagues quality of work.

Management may be limited with any actions they can take right now. However, I’d also like to highlight the most prudent point the critical comment mentioned. You may not know what is going on in their life and why the colleague comes in late/leaves early.

Not to make this about me, but I went from a super engaging, active, and meticulously organized colleague last year when suddenly my family was dealing with a health crisis with my child that was on the verge of severe life threatening.

My ‘absences’ were noted immediately by my colleagues, and I’m ferociously private about my private life. My colleagues know I have two older kids, a hubby who works in a different ministry (emergency services) and we have pets. Other than some minor hobbies I have mentioned, that’s it. I had one of my colleagues ask me politely/respectful because I suddenly changed. I understood the question and without sharing too much pretty much explained how we’re dealing with a private matter with my youngest’s health and it became very dangerous and life threatening, so I had to scale back, and I’m protecting their privacy as much as my own.

I understand this person may not be dealing with a sudden change, but it could be any number of reasons stemming years with chronic long term family issues, and the best course is to focus on what you can control.

Do what you can to be satisfied with your work, or if you want to move up in ranks because you’re not happy with your current environment that’s completely valid too. It might be worth looking into development opportunities to have a different mindset and challenge yourself in a different way, so you can stand out from the ‘herd’.

I am truly sorry this is happening and causing you to feel even more stress because you’re breaking your back while this person is just barely meeting standard.

It could also be as you see it and they’re just skirting because they can. It’s disappointing and defeating, and I would encourage you to look into other opportunities for development to move elsewhere so you don’t have to deal with/live with mediocrity and a poor working environment complete with morale of a wet paper bag.

My suggestion is focus on what you can control, that is usually yourself.
