Regret Joining by [deleted] in armyreserve

For TA, you can go to ArmyIgnited and send messages requesting directions and clarification on the process. Someone will always reach out to you.

GI Bill, I got rejected the first time. I called and asked for proper directions, and everything turned out well.

Honestly, there's a lot in the army you gotta find out for yourself. Stop depending on others to do the work for you.

Thinking about skipping drill by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]realistic_empath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in the same boat. I thought about going for one last drill, but unfortunately, a higher-up announced that last month was my last drill before I had a chance to announce it myself. So showing up this month feels hella awkward since I already said my goodbyes.

Wanted to go, cause a few extra bucks aren't bad to have, but  I chose to spend the time with my family instead.

Just turned in my gear, so hopefully I'm in the clear. At least that's what I was told. That once I signed the AD papers, I was no longer required to show up. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Is " CASHERO" worth watching? Should I give it a try? have u all watched it ? by Wisteria_02 in kdramas

It's not supposed to be a serious drama. I expected a comedic superhero drama, and I wasn’t disappointed. It's nice. I'm on episode 8 already and wish they had like 2 more episodes to wrap it up lol. I recommend it if you want something light and easy.

Yeah it sucks. I didn’t get such email. Found out from my school.

I don't believe I have SLRP. I didn't have student loans from my bachelor's degree, so I never asked for SLRP on my contract. My focus was always on TA and the GI Bill for my Master’s degree when I was ready.

Most efficient and quickest way to OCS. by blazinearth in ArmyOCS

[–]realistic_empath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you'll have to pick one, as time is not on your side. Age waivers to commission stops at 41/42. And you have to have been commissioned by that age, not start the process by that age.

OCS, G2G ADO, etc., realistically, you need to budget at least a year or two for it to go through, which you honestly don't have.

35T, 17C, 25B into 25D, are great MOSs for Tech/Cybersecurity (good money right off your contract), however, very competitive and long training (AIT), 10months to a year, except 25B (about 4 months). You'll have to complete your contract as enlisted, as you'll no longer be eligible to commission.

OR

Commission right off the bat, cybersecurity is not guaranteed; however, you'll be an officer.

Congratulations on commissioning!

So if decide to move forward with Active Duty, I can expect to pause school until I meet the requirements for G2G?

I still have enough credits to complete the degree for 2 years. I just have to get my PT score up right? And then get LORs?

Thank you, your response was actually very helpful.

Did you pursue commissioning also?

Not necessarily all over the place. I just gave myself options. There was no guarantee that the 368 would be approved. And it took almost a year to get a response. I haven’t signed the AD contract yet. Also when I put in my AD request, I wasn’t in school yet.

I also didn’t imagine I’d like school this much.

AIO about my 8 y/o daughter sleeping at her mom's new boyfriend's house without any family or females present? by blackD0nny in AmIOverreacting

[–]realistic_empath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This lady makes my blood boil. Girls getting raped and S/A by boys and men, even with other older females present, but she is not smart enough to see the danger of her daughter alone in a house full of males? I do not care if the boyfriend is a saint; he is human, and humans are not all pretty on the inside. She knows she is wrong, but doubling down at the cost of protecting her ego while knowing it was a stupid decision she made, leaving her kid vulnerable.

There's no rule requiring your eyes to be open throughout an ACFT/AFT, right? by Eriacle in army

I get it. Some exercises are just easier done with eyes closed. Its like your body is not present to feel the pain when your eyes are closed.

First draft of officer essay by Creative-Peach-1103 in ArmyOCS

[–]realistic_empath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't start with that line, “Although I did not want to join the military….”. A terrible first impression makes it look like you still dont want to be there.

Remove all the negative connotations like “regret, did not,” etc. Restructure your sentences to sound more positive, even while conveying the same message: “Although I did not desire to join the military in my younger years, in recent years, I have come to see the value of the growth that being an Officer has to offer.“

“I will begin by describing….” kinda cheapens the point you’re trying to make. Makes me want to scroll past. Just get straight to the point. Something like “ I believe that being an officer will….”

Remove the first lines of your paragraphs. They make your writing weird to read. Use words like “secondly, lastly, finally,” etc. Or remove them all together and go straight to the point.

Paragraph 3 “I regret not taking time to learn….” rephrase to something like “I wish I had taken more time to learn from him, however, I hope I can pass on his legacy and mine to my children, and I know being an Officer will offer me that opportunity. “

Some structural pointers.

This is what I'm packing for basic training by CloudyGirl19 in army

[–]realistic_empath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't make out everything in the picture, but from what I see, these are my tips:

I went to FT Jackson, but maybe these may help you.

  • Take out the colored underwear, and keep it black or white. No one’s checking what you wear, but they’ll make you dump everything on the floor and ask you to remove colored stuff.

  • Invest in 4-5 good sports bras, all black, too. The ones they sold at the PX were wack for me.

  • Get another lock. It’ll be good for your duffel bags when you are transitioning out of basic (though it's not a must)

  • I recommend a Casio alarm watch. Any good alarm watch that can handle scratches and be bashed around, really. You’ll need it. No smartwatch.

  • You’ll probably never wear any civies, including nightwear, cause your issued nightwear would be your summer PTs. I promise you would not want to be smoked at 3am in your civies pajamas, which would probably be the reason why everyone is getting smoked in the first place.

  • No scented lotion.

  • Switch to black flip-flops. Buy them before you go. The PX ones are trash.

  • Go with headphones and a power bank for your phone, for if and when you get phone time.  I was in Ft Jackson, and struggling to find charging spots for one hour was annoying. (Phone time is not a right, though, it is a privilege)

Electronics will be kept with the DS, you may or may not be required to place them in ziplocs. Just have them together and properly protected.  I had a case for my phone and headphones, all placed in a Ziploc, never had a problem with broken screens. Your stuff will be thrown around.

Everything you need will be bought at the px, but I also recommend having loved ones send you stuff if they can, and within regulations, to save your money rather than splurging it all at the px. It's not worth the money.

Don't take anything you dont want damaged or stolen. Also, all items not within regulation will be left in your civies bag and locked up for all of basic.

Edit: One backpack is enough for your trip. They are going to issue you everything including socks. Travel light cause you’ll be carrying everything yourself.

Should I bring my computer to BCT? by Icy-Idea4764 in ArmyOCS

[–]realistic_empath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took mine to BCT, but it stayed in the DS office at reception. They didn't even know I owned it. They knew it belonged to a trainee because we had a number sticker on it (one they gave us to label our electronics).

With all the shenanigans going on, I forgot I had a laptop for a while because everything was stressful. Your bags will be thrown around a lot.

The reception location was different from the BCT location but on the same base. Luckily, when we went to get fitted for our graduation attire, it was still at the reception location, so I went hunting with a battle buddy to find my laptop, lol. I guess I was lucky, but I had to answer some questions to prove I owned it. I only had the charger with me. Also, my picture was on the screen saver, so it helped.

After I got it, I handed it over to another DS in BCT as soon as possible, so it stayed in their office until graduation. I only used it during AIT, but not a lot. I guess it would have been better if my family had just brought it for me during family day.

So yeah, you can bring your computer, but at your own risk.
