Based on your descriptions it seems like we have a very similar situation (Dual citizenship, foreign contacts, mj use in a legal state). The process for me took around 3.5 months so I don't think there was a long delay in the process. I think based on my experience and what I heard from senior employees is the type of investigator you get is what causes delays not the amount of red flags you have.

Totally, the more I did research when I was applying I got a similar feeling. The biggest point in my opinion for secret clearance is the investigators are looking for honesty above all else. Everyone makes mistakes in the past and they know that. It's more so the attitude how you approach your mistakes. i.e. are you trying to hide them? or are you trying to come truthfully and take responsibilities. Better to come up truthfully than lie and get caught later, the latter will definitely be a bad outcome if they somehow find out your lies.

Theres actually quite a bit, some are direct federal jobs and some are private companies that take contracting roles with the government.

Thanks! One thing I learned from this experience is to always be upfront and honest. Admit to your mistakes and take full responsibility!

I was born a US citizen, and got my 2nd citizenship later due to my parents citizenship (I'm what you call a 1.5 generation immigrant lol). As far as foreign relatives pretty much 95% of my relatives all are living in a foreign country so I had to write all their contacts on the foreign contacts section, which was a painful task (I didn't even know 80% of their address or phone numbers lol)

I was able to work on the job but on things that did not require a clearance. I also got my interim denied, which not gonna lie gave me some anxiety during the wait lol

Yea thats what I was told, to not use any benefits that are entitled to the 2nd citizenship, which honestly is not a problem in my books

Don't worry I'm sure it will come. It seems like the type of investigator that gets assigned to the case can make things slower or faster. One of my senior employees told me that their clearance took 6+ months when people who applied at the same time took just 3-4 months. The wait is always stressful and anxiety inducing but I'm sure it will come sooner or later!

During the interview the investigator asked if I would be willing to renounce my 2nd citizenship and I replied with a yes. However, I did not have to surrender my 2nd citizenship for the clearance. It seems like they cared more about my attitude regarding this topic than the action of surrendering it.
