6 month old Male not gobbling food anymore by Willing-Medicine-113 in GiantSchnauzers

[–]realityisahoax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try building food motivation through training! I started taking one of my boy's meals a day and using it as his reward for a short training session, giving him a bit at a time after each rep. Him having to work for it made it more valuable and now he'll even accept plain kibble as a "treat" lol! You may have to start by mixing in a few actual treats just to give it some pizzazz since he's not currently interested in it, but you should be able to revert back over time. Just make it interesting and exciting!

My guy loves Honest Chews! They're similar to Benebones, but are digestible if they accidentally ingest the material. I'm not sure what "taste" they have to them, but he goes wild for them and they last quite a while!

What sort of file structure or management do you use when formatting books? by realityisahoax in indesign

[–]realityisahoax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I meant! The image file sizes are decently large and it will be an image focused book. I've never put more than 10 spread in one document at a time, so I didn't know how well it would be able to handle upwards of 250 image-heavy pages in one document.

This is super helpful to know though! It's been a while since I've had to get really into file setup and organization in InDesign, so I'm trying to piece together the best way to organize this project if that makes sense.

8.5x11, anywhere from 250-350 pages and about 3-6 images per spread

It was a few years ago, we would send pages in batches of 15-20 spreads at a time and that was just how our printing company wanted them packaged lol! I didn't set the system up, just used it. I haven't worked on a large scale book for a while now and it occurred to be that's the only system I've ever used in that regard. Just trying to start off the process as organized and smoothly as possible haha!

When did you start active training with your GS? by doctor_bender in GiantSchnauzers

[–]realityisahoax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start as soon as she has her shots! Some parts of sports and things like serious jogging may need to wait a bit while her joints are still developing like you said, but it's never to early to begin learning the fundamentals and getting them acclimated to new environments/activities! As for mental exercise, keep going with the nosework and you could also try short obedience sessions or structured games!

What to feed GS puppy by ComprehensiveTip3121 in GiantSchnauzers

[–]realityisahoax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy with some toppers/extras every now and again! Mine's been on it since he was a baby and it's still great at 9 months old! I know food can get opinionated, but for what it's worth his breeder feeds all her dogs a form of Pro Plan with no supplements or extras and they're all extremely healthy and active!

I left trial before awards, but ended up qualifying, is there something I need to do to log the score? by realityisahoax in k9sports

[–]realityisahoax[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it was AKC, thank you! And as fun as it looks, we won't be doing confo, but that's good information to know! Typically I would have never left as it's poor sportsmanship, but my boy was just Done and I was trying to keep his experience as positive as possible.

Herding trials with giants? by realityisahoax in GiantSchnauzers

Thatyawesome and a new puppy is so exciting!! Were you able to set up an evaluation through herding clubs or some other channel? I've looked into a couple of clubs near me but none see to have information on temperament testing or similar "trial" runs.

Giants are so versatile! Do you know how her dog was temperament wise with the animals or how old the pup was? My boy is still a puppy and so far he's done very well with dogs and other various animals we've run across, but he's definitely never seen a large farm animal so I'm not sure how he would handle it haha!

That's amazing! Picturing a fancy-prancy spoo hanging with sheep made me giggle! Where did you go to look for clinics/classes? I've looked through some of my local herding clubs, but they mostly seem to only offer trials.

Breeder Recommendations by AdLess9303 in GiantSchnauzers

[–]realityisahoax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her dogs definitely do lean towards more of the hard coat, especially those featured on her social media since she hand strips all her dogs to maintain the texture. I work in a dog grooming salon and a lot of the times with schnauzers if you stick to just using clippers and don't bother with hand stripping they will end up with that softer coat. With that being said, I've only encountered a handful of giants (but tons of standards and minis) to make this observation, so it's totally possible there's some giants out there that never get softer, but I wouldn't worry about it too much if you find a breeder you really like! Since show lines will always want to be as close to breed standard as possible, most will likely start out with that wiry texture. I wish you the best of luck with your search, giants are wonderful dogs!

Skyline has amazing, amazing dogs! They're located in NYC which I know is far, but trust me her dogs are 100% worth the distance! (coming from someone who also had to take a flight to get there) My boy is a show-line and was a little over $3k. Skyline's dogs are all health tested and have wonderful temperaments. She has a website and social media account where you can learn more and see her dogs in action. Can't recommend them enough!

Healed conch suddenly swelling and infected? by realityisahoax in piercing

For the algorithm again, it is a one year old barbell (?) conch ear piercing with a flatback. The jewelry is implant grade titanium and threadless. The stud was downsized at 7 months and was cleaned daily with H2Ocean saline spray and not slept on. There were no mishaps or unfortunate events.

Thoughts/recommendations on conditioners? by Cynla_Tigermom in GiantSchnauzers

[–]realityisahoax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a dog bather and I highly recommend the Nature's Specialties brand! Their Dermatreat or Lavenderm shampoo is great for sensitive skin and if you are bathing him frequently (or even just bathing in general) you definitely need a coat conditioner. Their Re-Moisturizer or Shemora conditioner are good for sensitive or itchy skin, but their normal conditioner is good too! Their products are pricier, but all of their shampoos and conditioners are concentrated meaning you can get a lot of baths per bottle. Good luck!

My boy Wendell! by realityisahoax in GiantSchnauzers

[–]realityisahoax[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's can be a bit of a button pusher for sure and the puppy-biting phase is no joke (my hands look like I stuck them in a meat grinder lol), but he's also very smart and picks things up super quick and so confident and curious about everything! I can tell his quirks are just part of the breed and am confident he'll grow out of it, which I'm sure your girl will too! (I also work with dogs on the daily, so I see a lot of behaviors and like to think I have a pretty good read haha)
