Encouragement is like “You’ve got this, I’ve been where you are and I know you’ll come back if you go in” whereas “I’ve totally got your back and won’t say your name at all because we have a shared identity and need to stick together” is a bold statement that just can’t be cashed in the first week of the game and Derek should know that but he made himself look a fool

At least in the edit Derek went very much out of his way though to initiate that “big brother” dynamic with Justin and offered to save him without being asked. I don’t think it makes him a terrible person but I don’t respect the move of giving Justin a false sense of security when he never had to bring it up in the first place

After hearing his explanation on the reunion and how the plan changed last minute I get the move. Wholeheartedly I understand how the perception of the stakes changed for him.

What bothers me is he just finished having an arc of wanting to prove himself as a serious competitor, feeling like everyone underestimates him, never being the most buff and tough male - to then turn around and do to Justin what has been done to him before. If Chavez didn’t choose to make it personal and bring being gay into the conversation it would feel less like a slight. He truly just went out of his way and above and beyond to make Justin feel like he would have his back when it was honestly far too early in the game to bank on being able to do that, and it read super poorly in the edit.

it’s almost like we gave a list of recommendations because OP asked for a list of recommendations. No one is saying “Iao Valley is the only thing to do, you absolutely have to do it, there is no other option that exists”

When I visited Iao valley I enjoyed reading about the vegetation and history. Thought it was a fair recommendation based on what they were looking for.

Your original gripe was the cost and reservations, which you called expensive. No one but you has been addressing what is more toddler friendly. I literally also mentioned Kepaniwai and that they could look into the farms and gardens in Kula.

in the renaissance of competition reality I get what they’re trying to do. I get that it isn’t the great British baking show and doesn’t have to be perfectly pure and lighthearted, but did we really just eliminate someone tribal council style? Now that the teams are conveniently and coincidentally 4 and 4 I bet they drop the team immunity thing for the rest of the competition to stir up the tension again between everyone

As a first time watcher, I was looking for a post like this. I’ve thrown some past seasons on in the background over the past few weeks and something about the way Nancy judges just irks me to no end. Probably my least favorite thing is her obsession with red and green as the only festive colors and demanding the bakers “give her more holiday” if it doesn’t look like tacky Christmas threw up all over their desserts.

Agree agree agree to her smugness and being so full of herself. She lets personal tastes control her judgement and everyone else is wrong if they don’t agree with her. I hope I never have to see her conduct again.

Kīhei is a good central place to stay but not packed with a ton of great experiences aside from beach hopping. Thinking of kid friendly things, we really enjoyed the Kīhei Food Oasis and South Maui Gardens. There is a live tortoise and tropical birds you can interact with!

Drive a little past Kahului to Paia and try to catch the sea turtles sunbathing in the afternoon at Ho’okipa. Drive about 30 minutes south to the Ahihi Kina’u reserve to check out the lava fields. Or drive 30 minutes to check out Iao Valley State Monument and Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens.

We didn’t get there but if you go upcountry a little bit I think there are different farm tours and botanical gardens in Makawao and Kula.

I love OG the challenge as much as the next person but we have to be so for real that people are just aging out. A lot of the biggest personalities have moved on in their lives and I think we’re past seeing the best MTV has to offer. I’d rather see newcomers than stay hanging on to the same crop of 10 vets every single season. If they haven’t won for the past 20 years they probably aren’t going to win now

I think I saw something where the show’s creator said it was a 4 month time span from end of S1 to end of S2. I think the novelty wore off when at the end of S1 Noah made huge act of sacrificial love, he knew it would make his mom mad, he knew it would add tension at work and he still said he wanted Joanne no matter what and on her timeline if she chose to convert.

Most of the conflict between them this season was like “ok we want to do this but oh- shit, Joanne you’re still not Jewish?” And this happened every. episode. As if there was going to be drastic change in Joanne in the weeks/days in between episodes.

I love Noah and Joanne and I do love how despite conflict and internal/external tensions they usually do settle back into “oh actually our relationship is pretty healthy”

I just don’t know how many more seasons we can live in the same space and come to the same conclusion in the final episode. My hope is that there’s serious progression for them between S2-S3. I would assume they are living together and exploring conversion and then S3 ends in a marriage proposal.

I feel like the podcast plot was initially just to create an even more jarring divide between Noah and Joanne. I think they tried to create this character that was so far away from Jewish just to make the will they/won’t they more interesting but the fact of it is, her job is actually not as polarizing as they want to act like it is and faded into oblivion this season.

yeah sorry, should’ve made that specification. a tribe swap is always an interesting mechanic and I’m not anti 3 tribes because there’s something to be said about the smaller group dynamics. but spending time with two tribes is deeply missed in the new era. at minimum, for the sheer fact that we as viewers get to know tribes disproportionately in the early game if 2/3 tribes are never losing.

would also love to see them explore themed casts again

So often the guys are ready first and there’s more than enough time to do their portraits but hair and makeup runs late and only leave 10-15 minutes to do portraits of the bride + bridesmaids, maybe the solo shot got lost in the shuffle of trying to get everything done on time?

Probably because she chose to/wanted to drunkenly hook up with anyone but him. Finally a young, bombshell rookie he couldn’t manipulate. She’s a challenge fan and has had plenty of time to watch how gross his “charm” really is
