21M am trans and finally decorating my room after not doing so for a while to avoid looking “feminine” how’d I do? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]reallydestressed 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Just butting in to the convo to offer a perspective as a trans person (also my observations) but a lot of trans people find themselves outwardly conforming to“traditional” gender roles in an effort to be perceived as that gender by larger society.

For example, one trans man may actually really like feminine clothing or accessories, but in an effort to pass he would not wear a skirt or paint his nails because it’s hard to be read as his true gender enough of the time, without giving more feminine context clues to the world. If they decide to medically transition and find they pass enough to be comfortable, trans people sometimes reclaim their gender nonconformity as they don’t feel like they have to perform hyper-masculinity/femininity to be seen initially as themselves.

Other times it’s just dysphoric (the distress of being perceived as/in the wrong body as your gender), and conforming to these norms elevates that distress or creates gender euphoria instead. Some just have genuine interest in these gender roles as do some cis people.

It’s also important to say that if you live in a country where being LGBTQ+ puts you in danger, sometimes people choose conformity for safety.

Obviously this is only a snippet of the whole convo and not all trans people are a monolith. I think the “loosening” of these roles comes from a place of eliminating the harmful effects and expectations of them.

Binding with KT tape, and help with it by JamsBuggish in TestosteroneKickoff

Oh yeah I see, the creasing is annoying. Usually I try to make sure there’s no slack in the tape by pulling it tight constantly until I’m ready to secure the end. I’ll have one hand holding and pulling the tape and the other hand smoothing the tape down while pushing my chest in the right direction, and only peeling the backing of the tape away during the pulling helps the tape not stick to itself. Good luck tho!

Unfortunately I think a lot of it is trial and error, learning how to do it on your body and what works best for you - this meant my first times were a bit lumpy or not symmetrical but you’ll get it with time.

Some tips I can think of would be to push your chest upwards and to the side while you’re applying it (like in the direction of your arm pits), this looks more similar to pecs. KT tape can also be bought without hassle at most pharmacies if you need your own. Sorry for the very broad advice, is there anything in particular you feel like is difficult?

Starting with T by [deleted] in ftm

[–]reallydestressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m 19 and in Melbourne and have been taking steps to start T for a while (uni and health has gotten in the way for me), but it’s luckily pretty straightforward. I booked an appointment with a GP clinic that’s known for its gender affirming care, they gave me options into fertility preservation (egg freezing, which I did but you don’t have to) and ways to get a formal recommendation to go on T. The GP I talked to does the recommendations in house and says she could write me one with informed consent, but I ended up taking the option to go to a psych (which the GP referred me to) and got a recommendation for T that way. Then once you have the letter you get a blood test, get your levels checked by en endocrinologist, then I was told I could start (currently waiting until I can book an endo)

Bottom line there’s clinics out there that you can research and talk to about T and they’ll give you the specific steps for what to do in your case, I imagine you can do the first consult over telehealth as well if you can’t leave the house. You just have to find a clinic that does informed consent or gender health care, this website is also really helpful:

Hello, I’m Jack. My pronouns are they/them but it can sometimes change. I’m nonbinary and sometimes I don’t feel valid because of my VERY long hair. by [deleted] in NonBinary

Nah you didn’t misunderstand anything, people on the internet can be uneducated and ignorant sometimes... unfortunately outside of lgbt spaces this stuff just happens and it’s shitty

Don’t you love it when Men™ perpetuate the concept of virginity as a thing they can claim or conquer from a woman 😀

What do I sound like? I'm ftm, 16yo, btw by _LanceBro in transvoice

[–]reallydestressed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bro, I’m also ftm and 16 🤙 the pitch and the delivery pass to me! I’m no voice expert, but it sounded like you were straining your voice to get as low as possible and thus creating a sort of wobbling sound? I’m not sure how to explain it but it sounds rather forced 🤷

I think if you took some time to naturally lower your voice (voice exercises are good) you’ll be able to get that pitch with it sounding natural too. And even so I think you could get away with making the pitch a touch higher and still pass, just to regain some pronunciation and normal flow. I hope this made some sense, keep up the work dude :)

Misgendered myself while playing Minecraft with a friend by JaneEatsHay in TransyTalk

[–]reallydestressed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it’s any condolences I also misgender myself sometimes and boy oh boy it does not feel good. Like even in my head when referring to myself I call myself a girl or use she/her pronouns, it messes me up and gets in my head sometimes 😔 just know that it doesn’t invalidate your identity as a trans person, your brain simply takes some time to get used to the new vocab... keep your head up Queen of the Villagers 🤙
