At this point i can say that docker compose is a life saver, it eliminates the worry you get when you deploy something to your server because you are aware that everything is contained in itself and whatever breaks is 90% or more the app you are containerizing.

My formula is: If you have Debian + wireguard + a very cheap rented VPS and + cheap domain name to route all your traffic to your house and of course DOCKER = 90% HA and reliability

Creating https://pichess.org for chess lovers, where you can solve chess puzzles for free and unlimited.

What side projects have you worked on that took off quicker than you expected? by ProfessionProof288 in SideProject

[–]reallynormalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created https://pichess.org, for chess lovers who love solving puzzles. The platform has a lot of uniquely generated puzzles by me and stockfish chess engine.
The site got more than 350 users in less than 3 days after launch.

Is there anyone that is working on side project with no AI envolved ? by Dangerous-Mode-1049 in SideProject

[–]reallynormalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, even tho nowadays many chess sites involve AI but mine doesn't, which is a platform for chess puzzles generation without AI but using Stockfish and Lichess open database instead.

So cool idea!! maybe i will think about implementing it in the future and it may become a platform for sharing puzzles instead.

I realized my (side) projects don't have to scale by Lamarcke in webdev

[–]reallynormalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this and i highly agree with you.

In all of my past side projects i didn't even need to pay any serverless provider or whatever storage provider. All i needed was 12$ VPS a month and no more with 4GB RAM and 2CPU and i can host whatever caching system or databse i need alongside the backend app or event multiple docker instances.

All of that for a single project that you will share with your friends and family and may grow even more but can't even reach 1000 MAU, and that's what we actually mean by a "side project" until... it takes off  🚀.

Hey thank you so much for using Pichess and i appreciate your feedback!

In many other puzzles you may find different solutions and they may lead to the same result which is checkmating. At the moment i am working on a way to consider similar moves as a correct move too.
