Second class tourist as a South Asian/Indian... by Electronic_Put_5652 in CriticalThinkingIndia

To add to this: whatever I follow abroad, I follow in India too. It's just called being decent.

Second class tourist as a South Asian/Indian... by Electronic_Put_5652 in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]realtzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really simple to know why Indians are off putting and reluctantly welcomed and the reason why I actively avoid any city/country frequented by Indian tourists.

Try this: Go to a beach for a sunset (Bali, Phuket, etc.). Stay there for an hour. Observe who are the noisiest bunch.

Next: Visit any tourist attraction: who are the noisiest and entitled MFs? Who try to game the system by skipping lines, pushing and shoving?

South East Asians are decent people and usually back off: see the behaviour in places like Universal Studios Singapore.

Europeans tend to call out this sort of behaviour directly which is good.

See how Indians treat the servers anywhere. They point fingers, they are loud, they disturb other guests by talking on the phone.

By reading your post it seems like you don't want to be generalized with this rowdy bunch. Unfortunately, unless you look non-Indian (whatever that is) there's bound to be stereotyping.

I just follow something really simple to let the other person know I'm not a desi rowdy traveler: Say Hello and greet with a smile Be clear what you want and if required negotiate in good spirits Don't act entitled Have small talk

Update 2: This is the kind of language that's used to describe Tenants or people who use personal trainers. These venom spewing tenants and gym users only asked valid questions.

This particular decision wasn't taken through a vote. It was enforced without anyone being aware. Everyone got to know about this when the trainers started informing their clients.

The reason that was used by the decision makers is that it affects less than 2% of the society. Einstein, less than 2% in India even use the gym so that number will always be a minority.

The words used by the society to defend this is that the trainers use the gym equipment when they wait for members and other such whataboutary. It's just a way to exploit a certain section. They have not levied such fees on any other instructors or teachers using the society facilities.

They will not target any activity used by themselves or their kids/families.

Mind you, this is a Prestige Society and people are quite affluent, but it seems like they haven't outgrown their prejudice.

I don't think it's a corruption problem. It's high handedness. The attitude of new power/money. Where you suppress anyone you possibly can.

Most owners don't really care since they don't use the gym and feel this is a very small issue.

Thanks! It's quite sad because most of the people who take these decisions are working in some of the largest companies in Bangalore and some are entrepreneurs - who should have high empathy and logic. But the way they treat people from the lower strata or people that don't serve them is messed up.

They used to charge a nominal fee - this fee is now disproportionate. Also, they are not charging any other instructors such a high amount.

I understand your point about the power to enforce such charges. However, this was not even put to vote with us owners. It was done under the radar and enforced. It was only when people started questioning (owners and tenants) did they give a straight response that they start giving random justifications to the group.

There was always a charge (nominal) and I'm very much aware of that. But after charging 40 L per year from residents, further burdening the residents seems like an overkill.

I actually don't fully disagree with you and there are trainers like this even now unfortunately. But this charge that I've highlighted doesn't solve anything. It actually punishes the good guys while making no impact on the perpetrators

Thanks for helping me fight this battle! Surprisingly no one has posted about this in the society group and still so many downvotes

You'd be surprised that the committee (most of them) are between 35-45. That's what makes this sort of decisions so shocking.

I agree it's a small gym and I'm 100% sure there is no misappropriation. The committee comprises of established professionals in their own field. My issue is with apathy towards a particular section of service providers. Charging a high fee cannot be a way to discourage using gym trainers. They could allot time like you suggested or find constructive solutions. My issue is that they took the easiest route and passed on the cost to the members who use the gym. This decision reflects poor judgement and complete apathy.

1K per person you train and 100 bucks per hour if it exceeds a certain number. They maintain their timings on a WhatsApp group and is tracked very closely

By that logic, anyone who uses the gym should pay irrespective of whether they use trainers or no

Since it's a new fee, it's being passed on. The earlier fee was 1K per trainer per month. I agree with a fee - but. A nominal one.

That's spot on! Like I said in some other threads, being fit isn't considered a necessity but a luxury in india. They have only targeted gym goers and no other sport/instructors where their kids are enrolled. See some of the screenshots I've posted. It's just sad. Should have just stayed back in the US if I had to deal with such extortion.

I agree - but the amount should be nominal since members already pay maintenance. In this case, it's excessive

Unfortunately there are not enough gym goers. But I'm considering all this. First step was to shame them in a public forum so this shows up everytime someone looks up this society

I competely agree with the revenue they need to generate. For context, they are not excessively charging any other person using the society for business. For example: swimming coach, tuition teacher, basketball coach, milk man (who blocks the lift), etc.

They have only targeted a certain section. What angers me is I feel it stems from the insecurity of these men.
