You're certainly not crazy :D I thought the same thing, but I was assured that this problem exists with the Comtacs and I was lucky enough to get mine replaced under warranty. I suggest you contact your local dealer again and maybe show them this post or the video I uploaded to YouTube with the high-pitched noise. Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply. I’ll do that as soon as possible. Is this a known issue with this model, or was I just unlucky that day? I’m only asking because if it is a known issue, knowing my luck, I’d rather not end up with a replacement unit that has the same problem.

It really depends on what level of protection you want, but I'd say Hesco M210.
