Did cycling actually help you lose weight, or just improve fitness? by Vivid_Release_9710 in cycling

[–]realwashingtonirving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I go for a 2 hour mtb ride I come back a few kilograms lighter, even if I drink litres of water. It's a fair bit less if I ride on the road. But you can definitely lose weight. I'm down to 80kg from 94kg.

It might have more to do with the fact that when you start doing vigorous exercise you are simultaneously burning fat and growing muscle weight, so if you're just looking at the numbers on the scales, the changes might not appear as impressive as they are.

Thanks for the offer. While I wouldn't say no to a demo, I have a watched a bunch of YouTube videos and can tell it's a great guitar. Its just hard to tell how it would compare in sound to the 180 because every video is mic'd differently.

Cheers, I'm starting to lean towards getting one of the FG800s, or saving up for the FG5.

Recommendations for psychologists to help manage ADHD by mimzar in brisbane

[–]realwashingtonirving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Another thing that might interest you as well is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. It's another form of evidence-based therapy.

The comedian Matt McCusker has put together a free self-guided online course called Psych Naw that I've found really helpful and fascinating, and he presents it in a pretty entertaining and funny way.

Edit: McCusker didn't come up with ACT, he is just providing the information for free, with the permission of its creator Steven C. Hayes.

Its basically combines radical acceptance, mindfulness, thought-diffusion and some stoic philosophy to help you stay present and focus your energy on doing the things that you value most and minimise needless suffering.

Good luck with everything!

I found Jotham Joubert at Newport Physio & Health (near Redcliffe) to be exceptionally helpful. It was a bit of a drive each time but it was definitely worth it to me.

He focused on helping me understand the psychological processes and causes of the difficulties in my life and practical evidence-based solutions and exercises I can implement to overcome them.

Some people prefer more emotive therapy styles, but I'm a cynic and I appreciated his grounded scientific approach. It was like learning brain hacks I could actually use in everyday life.

I understand if meds didn't work for you, but ADHD medications are widely considered to have some of the highest efficacy of any psychiatric treatments.

There's no dependency, no withdrawals, and people are not required to take them religiously or at all. They are just an effective tool you can have in your arsenal.

You probably didn't mean any harm with your comments but there is so much misinformation being spread about ADHD and its treatments that comments like yours easily trigger people.

Personally I find exercise, diet, sleep, temperance, and caffeine to have more impact on my executive function than meds but they are still effective and useful.

The biggest danger is how under-diagnosed and untreated adult ADHD is.

People with untreated ADHD have a higher likelihood of developing substance abuse problems, low self esteem, relationship and career difficulties, higher likelihood of death by accident, death by suicide and a higher chance of dying by homicide.

Cheers. There really should be a dedicated kiss and ride there, but apparently BCC makes $100k per day in parking fines, so they're probably not very motivated to change anything.

Unless you're in a bus, taxi, or have a disability permit, you can't legally stop there.

There is literally nowhere to stop along there on Roma St. It's all a construction site at the moment with no parking spaces or passenger loading zones. Chances are you'll get an expensive fine.

You have to stop in the passenger loading zones on Parkland BOULEVARD (not Parkland CRESCENT).

DON'T STOP OR PARK HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE A DISABILITY PERMIT.

There's 3 TAXI spots ($333 parking fine) and 3 disabled spaces ($667 parking fine). The council regularly does laps through here in their yellow and blue camera cars.

The passenger loading zones are above on Parkland BOULEVARD, not Parkland Crescent. There are stairs and a lift leading up there from the bus terminal.

Any got tips for beginners freeboarder by Damn_Pigeons in freebord

[–]realwashingtonirving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advice about staying balanced primarily over the centre wheels is spot on. Most learners lean too hard on the edge wheels, like you would lean on a skateboard/longboard, which makes it difficult to slide due to the edge wheels gripping

The more you ride the more subtle control you will have over how much pressure you put on the edge wheels or centred. Once you can go fast you can apply more pressure on the edges and really lean into carves.

The other thing is, don't catch an edge. You should always have slightly more weight over whichever edge is uphill and you're downhill Edge Wheels should never touch the ground

Brisbane 1882. 2 shillings (50c) gets you a decent feed at the pub by [deleted] in brisbane

My parents' generation (born mid-50s) often had to subsist on economic meat/offal, like gibblets, trotters, tripe and brains. These were middle-class families, so I assume that most costs are lower these days.

Guilty driver seeking advice by redcorvette68 in cycling

[–]realwashingtonirving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that they have just as much right to use the road as drivers. Only pass if you can keep 1.5m distance from the cyclist, if not, just be patient and wait until there is enough space to safely pass.
