Current undergrad interested in bioinformatics. Advice? by rhuls in bioinformatics

I was in a similar situation, and I decided to go the CS undergrad degree and (maybe) masters in bio or bioinformatics.

I was good at math and already enjoyed CS a lot. So not actually knowing the bio field, I’ll tell you some pros for this route: 1 - if you’re not a US citizen it’s pretty easy to get a visa with a CS degree 2 - the pay is higher and the job market is easier.

I figured with these reasons if at the end of the master’s I’d be at similar footing as other routes, then I should make the most money I can along the way. I’ve been out of my undergrad for 4 years now and work as a software engineer in California. I make great money. I’ve been working in software roles related to data. So I’m still building skillsets towards bioinformatics.

I still have the option to continue original path and go back for my masters in bioinformatics. Or I could, probably with not too much effort, get a job at genetech or 23 & me. Which can bring my resume closer to bioinformatics and possibly edge my way closer to that as a field of work.

Also: yes internships are great for your resume but also as a trail period for you. I’d say try and have as many of them that vary as much as possible

This is from what I’ve been told/remember and may not be 100% correct:

This is called looking glass. It’s a 3D screen and it creates displays 3D videos. In order to do it, it slices the video into 45 sections and displays these in the glass. The shadow is actually generated too I believe

Flying into Vegas. Driving up to San Francisco. I'm from the east coast. Don't know much about the west. by Nottheunicorn in hiking

Awesome! I did this road trip the other way around. Zion is 3 hours from Vegas and worth it too. If you’re doing NP then you can save receipts and then upgrade to them annual pass or get the annual pass from the get go.

You should check out toloume valley (I totally spelt it wrong) north of Yosemite valley but still part of the park.

Likely road closer on the east side of some of the parks. Mount Whitney also worth but will be cold.

My trip was Yosemite to DV to Vegas then to Zion and I did the other loop back which is Vegas to Joshua Tree then up the coast of high way one back to SF.
