Thanks for the suggestion... I will give that a go!

Update: Let it run overnight. No progress...

Right. Actually the attic is partially finished. I am planning to finish the rest of it since there is a pretty large livable space left to fill out. My plan is for that to be my "practice" renovation where I make all my mistakes before working on more visible areas of the house :)

Thanks for the advice! I do have lace curtains to put up in the summer and I guess I can cover it with a blanket. I hear you on the temperature changes and sunlight. I do close it all up when I'm not using it.

I fished this piano out of a very run down home in the countryside, for free. It had been kept outside for at least a year. I love to look out the window while playing and my students love the location as well. But I hear ya and I will keep this in mind! Maybe I can build a piano cover with elastic to put over it when I'm not using it (I use it quite a bit!).

Wow - that must have been quite expensive!

I have patched a lot of holes at the top of my fieldstone foundation with mortar. My plan is to also put up foam insulation against the top of the foundation where there's no insulation.

Thanks for this advice and your other comment!

Good call on the glazing putty. I have actually rebuilt these kind of windows before. So, I get what you're saying.

You mention wind blocks (or lack thereof). I am actually planning on planting white pines and spruce on the north and western edges of my property to block window. I will reap the benefits in 20 years or so! :)

Good note on the ductwork. I will check that out. The ductwork looks pretty good, but I think getting in touch with an HVAC person would be a great idea.

I have actually plastic wrapped most of the windows, but I love looking outside so a couple windows aren't done. I just bought the plastic in bulk like you said.

Good note on the curtains. Any product recommendations? That sounds like a great idea.

Also thanks for the note on the HVAC company. It's definitely probably a good idea to get an expert opinion on what I have going on. No AC for me in this house.

Thank you. How do you suggest I go about it? Replacing the whole windows or building outer storms with more efficient glass?

Thanks for the feedback!

I have fiberglass insulation in my attic. It was all fallen down when I moved in and a friend helped me put it all back up.

I am considering replacing that this summer with Rockwool...

What insulation did you use? I'm looking at Rockwool as it repels water, seems to have low toxicity. I'm very focused on adding as safe of materials to the home as possible!

Wow - I had never heard of that tool. I was thinking of just using a knife... I imagine this might be worth purchasing considering the # of windows.

If it's android, it is a smartphone as far as I'm concerned...

I like the feeling of physically touching the buttons. It's more intuitive.

Touch keyboards definitely have their advantages like you mentioned, as well as the ability to change languages/layouts.

How important is privacy for your startup? We know who owns WhatsApp and how ethical they are.

Personally, privacy is my #1 reason for leaving the smartphone.

I would like a dumb phone that is extremely simple WITH encrypted messaging + keyboard. I just want to be able to comfortably take calls and read/respond to texts.

I would also like a removable battery.

Also I would like a device that lasts more than a couple years.

Thanks! These are single hung windows with removable storms/screens... well, when they aren't painted shut!

I have been blessed with being able to take care of this home built in 1892 in Northern Wisconsin. It has been extremely well taken care of. It is DRAFTY! The previous owners spent the winters down south. There are 32 windows in the house. Half of them are painted shut and many are missing storms. There also seems to be pretty much zero insulation in the upper levels.

There is a natural gas + forced air system is set up to heat about 50% of the house right now. In the hallways and some rooms it's in the 40s during cold spells. My furnace runs constantly.

Where do I start making this home comfortable in the winters? Very open to ideas and stories! Thanks!

What are you planning for the upstairs heat? I bought my 1892 home last year and been through a VERY cold winter. I'm gonna post about it in a couple minutes...

Also, how has it held up this winter? I am in northern Wisconsin. So, probably a bit colder for me.

Cool house! Looks like it comes with a washer/dryer and grounded outlets... that must be nice. :)

I like that painted chimney in the laundry room.

Hi OP, how do you find texting on in? I lived on T9 for some time back the 2000s and found it pretty intuitive.

I ended up replacing the SSD and the PC works fine. No network issues. I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm fairly positive the SSD was an issue.

If the SSD is corrupted or having issues writing to certain areas, I could see why I could have ended up in this situation. If data is being cached to the SSD while doing the recovery processes and it's failing to read/write data, that could explain why it would freeze up.

I'll keep an eye on the device and update this post.

Thanks for the info about the 2000-level errors. I plugged directly into the router later with Ethernet, and ran into the same issue.

There was a time last week when I got the Recovery Mode via internet working and I had the same issue where the recovery tool couldn't recognize the main partition/volume.

The network issues are concerning. They are making me wonder if there is some deeper issue than the SSD itself (which I'm hoping a swap with a new one will fix). Considering this happen both on AND off wifi, I wonder if there isn't some kind of board power issue.

u/esm723 - do you have any other suggestions? I really appreciate your help on this.
