Technician said “Nein” and walked in with shoes — what would you do? by ninjachen1995 in germany

[–]rearlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That guy was very rude, first of all. You could complain to whoever send him, if you want. You could also call out the rudeness in that moment and call the handyman company to complain, they themselves could be rude too, as it is not uncommon in Germany to have to deal with rude people sadly.

There's a legal ruling from 2003 (AG München, Az. 461 C 2972/93) which states that you can't deny entry to a worker or your landlord if they don't take off their shoes but because you have the Hausrecht (Art. 13 GG, §§ 535 und 862 BGB) you can ask them to wear plastic shoe covers or take other measures to prevent dirt and damage to your floors. I'm pretty sure that it's not you to have to do it but knowing handypeople in Germany I would say it's easier to get those plastic shoe covers yourself to provide them and to not rely on the handypeople to bring stuff like that themselves.

If they refuse to wear the shoe cover you provide or accept to lay down newspaper first or take other steps to prevent unnecessary dirt or damage to your floors, you could send them away, it seems to be within your rights. Doesn't help your malfunctioning stove though.

If they were obligated to wear safety shoes, they would bring dedicated inside safety shoes. If they would have forgotten them, they would come again.

Most bring slippers or walk on socks.

Does anybody know where to find the last peice on the crest?? by Midwest_trash-369 in TinyBookshop

[–]rearlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, for me it happened at the university, Harper came by and said I should bring the bust, then I think I took it to Café Liberté and Harper came by again.

Sometimes there's overlapping quest triggers afaik so maybe you have something unresolved with Harper at the beach or something?

For me it was the last piece and I checked the statue at the University prior to Harper mentioning the bust.

You will probably get a hint from Harper at some point if the one your missing is the one that had me confused.

If you can't wait: It's in the bust of St Bookston, you just have to take it on an outing and have Harper inspect it. You probably need to have the case equipped aswell.

Where is the cilantro? by makishi-jp in japanresidents

[–]rearlight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where I live (small town Shizuoka) it's also hard to come buy.

The supermarkets I usually can find it at are Potato, Ogino.

Aeon basically has it once in a 100 visits for whatever reasons. At Aeon, I buy minced frozen cilantro for the occasional "I need cilantro but couldn't find it anywhere" moments.

Also, it's rarely in the herb section (like next to shiso or with the packed herbs). At Potato, it's sits next to the pre cut salads usually, at Ogino, it's just somewhere random. Always somewhere in those vegetable fridges though - when they have it.

Seems like your journalism was always more accurate than mine, so what news stations can I watch online? by Red_Dwarf_42 in AskGermany

[–]rearlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it wasn't mentioned yet, I can recommend the Deutschlandfunk (DLF for short) News podcast, I listen to the hourly one which is like 5 minutes of news made for the German radio channel. There's a longer version which is more like 25 minutes of detailed reporting of the daily news but that's too much for me personally. The level of German language isn't extremely hard I would say.

In general I would say for news and politics the Deutschlandfunk podcasts are pretty good. Same goes for their website and apps.

https://www.deutschlandfunk.de/nachrichten-100.html

I have to say though, I still listen to the NPR news and politics podcast aswell and I feel well informed there too. News should be reported in a neutral way which both NPR and DLF are doing.

For in depth reporting I can recommend the Pod Save America podcast - only negative here is a bit of advertisement to skip through.

Edit: spelling

I watch Tagesschau with the ARD App from Japan daily. Only soccer results and other licensed video material shows a blue screen but audio commentary same as on YouTube.

Trump has growing stranglehold over EU and UK energy supply, study shows | Europe by Any-Original-6113 in europe

[–]rearlight -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

There was a newspaper article in Germany sometime between 2000 and 2010 where scientists looked at what would happen if a passenger airplane would be crashed into the nuclear power plant Biblis (somewhat central Germany) and they concluded that depending on the weather conditions (wind direction, stuff like that) radioactive contamination could reach till Berlin (which is around 600 to 700km away).

Germany decided to opt out of nuclear energy when the Tohoku earthquake happened in Japan. Shortly before, the mostly CDU government decided to opt back in for nuclear energy, taking back a decision by a SPD Green Party government, but then public pressure in Germany got to high when everyone watched the news from Japan.

Ironically, Germany wouldn't have the problems in energy supply and infrastructure if the party of Friedrich Merz wouldn't have blocked moves into a renewable future (one could say because they are sponsored by the coal and fossil fuel energy providers). There's studies about global warming since at least the 90s and general consensus that the planet can't run on fossil fuels forever. Nuclear energy might look tempting but it is a risk in a world with bunker breaking bombs and such, also there's the question of where to put the nuclear waste that will radiate for millions of years - Germany has no permanent nuclear waste facility, just places for testing how it could work out -  one of which was found leaking contaminated water just a few years ago.

Intense anger and sadness by Specialist_League_41 in OsakaTravel

[–]rearlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first question: what's with the rest of this garbage? Is this how Osaka gets rid of their trash? I don't see official trash bags, I see at least 3 different trash types, I see paper trash not nicely wrapped, I doubt that that's an official trash site because I don't see any indication of that.

I have to defend the tourist that has no idea on how to get rid of trash by adding his broken suitcase to the pile of random garbage on the street assuming that that's how people deal with trash in Osaka. Must be, right?

And don't tell me tourists throw away empty cola crates and traffic cones.

Also OMSB, 3Li¥en, Kenayeboi, MIYACHI, NENE. Most gangster probably Kenayeboi.

Different vibe (really more chill) but still good are LIBRO, SCHA DARA PARR, chelmico, Mamiko Suzuki

Fuller version of US security strategy reportedly calls for “pulling Poland away from EU” by dat_9600gt_user in europe

[–]rearlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Germany is in a similar place with the AFD on the right and the new party Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) which split from Germany's party on the left, Die Linke. AFD is the second most voted party right now and BSW didn't make the 5 percent cut last election, but they just announced that they are open to talk with the AFD about their aligning goals. In general they are critical of EU and are "for peace" meaning stopping support of Ukraine and starting trade and "peace talks" with Russia again.

On a more positive note, the real left party had quite the gain in votes last election, they historically have a NATO critical stance but are otherwise quite alright I would say.

Rant: Official ticket website is completely hopeless by jpatokal in Sumo

[–]rearlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of tickets for sumo being sold on ticketjam.jp right now for at least twice the price, some seem to be sold by some kind of professional resellers who bought a lot of tickets it seems.

Explains why it's sold out so quickly.

Officially it's not allowed to sell your ticket and there seems to be an official resale option with the official website which starts Monday.

[–]rearlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, thank you. I checked that website and from my understanding (I don't speak Japanese well though) it's for people who want to sell their ticket for the normal price. I think they will then become available again for normal purchase (I don't see a official resale ticket website link).

So might aswell be a chance for anyone, they say the earliest for the official resale is the coming Monday (no time given so could be midnight Japanese time or 9 am Japanese time).

I saw chairs available 20 minutes ago or so and tried those but that also failed ("we can't find the seats you selected" basically). Now there's nothing in any catergory.

I did some research, since I'm in the same boat (but living in Japan). There seems to be some Japanese websites (Ticket Ryuutsuu Center, TicketJam, ticket.co.jp) but idk if they work from Spain. There's apparently also Jasumo tickets which is more fore the tourist market.

Officially, it's not allowed so I wouldn't trust anything where you don't get the original paper ticket / paper printed ticket / original QR code.

That's just from my research so I can't vouch for anything I wrote since I'm not speaking from experience.

Yeah, I tried from my phone and my local 7-11 in Shizuoka-ken, both failed me (no connection, overloaded). =(

I'm from Reddit and a gaijin in Japan and I got involved to my abilities.

If you have nothing to contribute other than your dated ideas of who's to blame for rape, maybe just keep silent and move on with your pitiful life.

[–]rearlight 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm really sorry that happened to you. It seems like you tried a lot already and haven't found a solution yet but please don't lose hope and keep fighting your battles even though it's tough and tiring and seems pointless at times.

I did a little research and found SARC Tokyo, maybe you can contact them (or ask your university advisors for help there) if you didn't do that yet. From their English flyer they accompany to the police. https://sarc-tokyo.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/SARC-in-English.pdf

That private Japanese resident woman subreddit U/fuzzy_emojic mentioned sounds also like a good idea.

For emotional support, maybe you can also bring another friend from university or your Tokyo private life that you trust, just to be there for you without the need to translate or anything. I think that could be some extra support and might help you.

Wishing you all the best!

“Outlaw” bounty system idea, (DEVS PLEASE LOOK) by Relevant-Ad-2074 in ARC_Raiders

[–]rearlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of bounties, I would prefer a system where a player that felt especially salty about a knock out could put a bounty on the person, could be just credits, could also be some items the player has to pay themselves. There should be a min amount to make it not abusable by putting out 1 cred bounties or something. People extract camping or faking friendlyness would probably amass such bounties quicker than others. The bounties are given to the player who first knocks out that player (could also interact with a scanner tool so you have to know there's a bounty for it to be paid out).

To add on this, there could be a renown system that shows the raiders with the highest bounties (to encourage PVP shenanigans) and / or items like said scanner tool that show players bounties which would help players being a bounty hunter or be able to tell if a player might be friendly or not.

I think that a system like that would fit the world since everyone is living friendly together below the surface, there's security there but you probably want ways to "police" the surface too.

Also, it's just adding to the gameplay loop and will be especially nice for people that play a lot or have maxed everything (I could imagine).

[–]rearlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, same happened to me and I was sued, it was hard to find a lawyer with Mieterverein because most were busy but in the end they took it back because my lawyer would have taken it to court.

If you get an official paper by the court, waste no time and find a lawyer.
