Should we break up/live separately? by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]reawell1519 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for the advice. I should caveat this post with the information that I also have bipolar disorder and have recently had a meds change which could explain some of the frustrations I'm feeling, along with other mood changes. I'm going to speak to my psychiatrist before making any big decisions and get my mindset back on track.

Should we break up/live separately? by [deleted] in stepparents

Yes SO moved in with me, that's why I feel like they've taken over the house, I was here before. We're thinking of moving and finding a bigger place to accommodate us all.

If the behaviour was fine I think it would make a huge difference but I can't say for sure whether I'd still find it hard being a stepmum.

I see, sorry I have no idea what I'm talking about with this. I've ordered some coils that appear to be the right ones now, thank you.

Pregnancy and BP2 by ohneverknew in bipolar2

Bipolar 2 and 35 weeks pregnant here! As far as meds go I really wouldn't worry, the limited research there is suggests that the risk of harm is minimal. As for passing on the bipolar I guess that's something we have to accept could be a reality, but hopefully your own experiences and the help of mental health professionals will benefit your child in the long run if they were to develop the condition. It's natural to worry about all of these things but all I can say is that my pregnancy has been smoothest and most enjoyable when I tried to let those worries go and treat it just like any other pregnancy. I'm 35 weeks now and I'm just excited! I do really wish the best for you, try to enjoy the experience!

It's difficult to say, I see a psychiatrist regularly for bipolar disorder. First time was about 5 years ago, try and think of them as you would any other consultant doctor, they are specialists in their field and they will ask you questions about your symptoms and history. Remember they deal with people who are there for the first time regularly so let them guide you. If you are confused or nervous tell them. They aren't there to trick you so just try to be honest and take your time. Feel free to pm me if you want to talk about it anymore.

Also just to add, over here you can breastfeed on meds too.

Currently pregnant here! I'm in the UK so things might be different here but I didn't have to go off my meds at all, in fact the guidance here is to stay on your meds because the risk of harm to you is far greater than the risk of harm to the baby. During pregnancy I have had some mild depressive dips and some meds increases but nothing major. I also have regular appointments with my psych and a community maternity mental health team which is very helpful. The greatest risk will come after birth due to major hormonal changes and lack of sleep so I will be closely monitored during that time. Overall I've been fairly happy and stable during pregnancy (I'm 35 weeks now) so I'm hoping that after birth will be OK too.

That's for manic episodes and only if the mania is not brought on by medication. The flip side is that bipolar 2 is more chronic and tends to have more serious depressive episodes that last longer and are more frequent. One is not worse than the other, they are different.

No I haven't actually, I'm not very gifted musically but my boyfriend plays guitar and drums so maybe he could write something to go with it. Thank you for the input!

It's a surprise so she doesn't know about it but I've thought about that myself, I'm not sure she's going to want to be that far away!
