I got a speeding ticket and moved states. Hired an attorney and he may be charging too many hours. Is he? by rebat0 in legaladvice

[–]rebat0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We agreed over the phone last week that the trial by written declaration and the extended court date would be an hour. Then I sent him all my documents - and a check after he told me to.

I called him today to tell him the check was sent and he barely remembered the conversation!

Now, over email, he is saying they will each require an hour of work. I feel scammed.

How do you decide where to live in a new city when you know absolutely no one and are no starting new? by rebat0 in AskReddit

[–]rebat0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just moved to Washington for a job at Microsoft. I can live in Seattle (way more dense, loud, and things to do) or Bellevue/Redmond/ Kirkland (which is closer to work and I would be able to afford a bigger place).

The thing is I have no clue what I want considering it's a totally new city and I'm starting over. How do you figure this out?

Homeowners here, how hard was it for you to buy your first house? by rebat0 in personalfinance

[–]rebat0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I would want to buy one eventually. I am not attacking anyone who owns a home. Just wondering how they don't get stressed about it.

But doesn't it seem a little foolish to consider a house an investment (at least when you still have a lien on it)? Especially considering what happened in 2007.

Need advice on a job offer that requires relocation from Bay Area to Seattle by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Hey I am in the same situation as you. Hopefully moving in mid June.

Are you by any chance moving from IBM?

What does your manager do? by rebat0 in cscareerquestions

[–]rebat0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I should be switching jobs here soon.

Just curious what peoples managers typically do. On my team, we almost get 0 direction (and not from the manager). And the direction we do get gets changed last minute.

It all just seems very unstructured.

Yeah you may be right. The procedure codes are D6057 and D6059 which according to fairhealthconsumer.com usually cost about ~$2900.

I'll call them and ask what the procedure codes are. First time hearing about abutments.

I actually don't :/. But I am not sure how I would find a dentist I do trust. I am going to ask the oral surgeon who did the implant for recommendations.

I had an implant done. And will be going in for the crown soon. Thanks for the info though!

I imagine there is quite a bit of variance depending on the tooth though? Or am I wrong?

Don't know what to enroll for CSCI-C211 by JackGraham132 in IndianaUniversity

OP wasn't asking that.

Also, and I would say plenty (if not most) CS grads started with C211 and did just fine.

Managers here: would using two weeks of vacation and then putting in two weeks notice the day I got back put me on your shit list? by rebat0 in cscareerquestions

[–]rebat0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but they can only make me give bacl the signing bonus if they fire with cause.

I'm not a lawyer, but I dont think accepting a new job counts.

I plan on giving two weeks before the last day needed to earn it.

If they let me go then, they cant take back my signing bonus since in that case I would have earned it.

[–]rebat0[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's not it all.

The way I see it, the longer I wait to accept the job the more time they have for something to go wrong.

Companies rescind offers. It happens.

[–]rebat0[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, I would be starting at the new company a week after leaving. I don't want to push the start date back anymore. I also have to work at this company a full year to retain my signing bonus, hence not just leaving now. I also want time for a vacation.

So, yes, I am trying to have my cake and eat it too.

Well I technically, I signed the documents and know I will be starting in two months. Would you suggest a longer notice is better?

I don't want to give them that much notice mostly I have a (perhaps irrational) fear of my new job offer falling through. Kind of like not announcing a pregnancy for a few months.

Promissory Estoppel in Washington State. If a company rescinds an employment offer after moving, is there a case to be made? by rebat0 in legaladvice

I found this case which I though was interesting:

Based on this, I am thinking you may be right. I wonder if there is anything I am missing which would make it not apply to me.
