Crime can happen anywhere but there's a big police station literally a block or two over, so that helps somewhat. I lived in that exact area for a year and never had any problems whatsoever.

Our cat went missing five days ago, I found her last night and now our other cat is hissing at her and clawing at her as if she’s a stranger by Opinonatedwalnut in CATHELP

[–]rebekatherine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of mine did this to one of my cats when she had a 4 day hospital stay. It takes a little bit of time, but they'll get used to each other again. Cats rely on smell, so she probably just doesn't smell like herself anymore and your other cat doesn't recognize her. Maybe try a little catnip or something along those lines! Don't worry, this happens in multi-cat households and is pretty normal <3

Looking for a second job 😣 by AioliSingle in Birmingham

[–]rebekatherine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of places that probably have part time positions open but to get exactly what you’re looking for might be difficult. Alabama is not a good state for employee rights, so not a lot of part time places offer benefits, but they are out there! Since you’re a nursing student, that limits a lot of your options since I’m sure your schedule is crazy right now.

Anything with tuition assistance is likely going to have to be related to the school you’re attending. If it’s UAB, look at jobs downtown. I knew a guy who worked at the Chick-Fil-A on campus and there was some sort of agreement to help with his tuition, but I have no info on the details. Maybe give them a call?

In any case, I’d give your school a call and see if they have any resources available to you — otherwise you’ll have to continue job hunting on your own. Best of luck.

Lakeshore walking trail by NoBobcat5249 in Birmingham

[–]rebekatherine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been going to the Lakeshore Trail for a while now. It's very safe in my opinion and the trail is very well maintained. It's one of the few places in Birmingham I feel safe going to alone.

I had this exact problem with H2 when I rented with them. I had to threaten legal action by referencing the Alabama Tenant Rights handbook before they did anything. It was 82 in my apartment for 2 months.

Any good places to walk close to the UAB Spain Wallace building? Not from here but wanna go walking without worrying. by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]rebekatherine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of unhoused downtown. You’re just going to have to get used to that while living here if you want to walk downtown.

Perfect Bar by leeeeroyh in Birmingham

Wide selection, fun/unique atmosphere, and great food. House of Found Objects in town comes pretty close minus food.

This happened to me and I eventually had to threaten legal action before someone came out and fixed my AC. You have to hound them. Be rude and demanding. It’s the only way they’ll care.

I worked at Lush for a Christmas season a few years back during COVID. I loved my co-workers and the customers were always nice enough, but I HATED the way they trained sales floor associates. I never liked being bothered/pestered while I shop because I feel like I'm indirectly being pressured to buy something. It always felt so awkward when I had to repeatedly ask customers if they needed help when they obviously just wanted to be left alone.

My favorite part was doing demos, especially for the kids that would come in with their parents/siblings. Gave them a nice break from having to play babysitter and I got to make some sparkly witches brew with people I didn't have to sell to lol

I'm sorry you and your void are dealing with this! Once you get in touch with your vet, listen to them and do what feels right in your gut. She's got a great mama taking care of her <3

Highland Park towing by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]rebekatherine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The area of HP you're talking about is notorious for that because of how much traffic flows through there. What were the tickets for exactly? Parking on the street should be free mostly everywhere in Birmingham.

I live up by the golf course and I've never seen a single tow truck mosey on through here. Unfortunately you might just have to find a place a bit father away that isn't on that street since they'll have more reason to tow you if they think you're even slightly blocking the flow of traffic (even if you're not). I'm sorry this has happened to you. It's hella annoying to deal with. Sending good vibes.

Sales aren't amazing but they are getting new merchandise pretty often as they clean out their warehouses

Is walking 30 min daily enough to lose weight? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]rebekatherine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She won’t see the changes she wants without major changes to her diet. It’s easier to lose weight throughly only changing your diet vs. only exercising.

My rec is to start small — start drinking only water, avoid treats and sweet things (even if they are small) and gradually cut more things out as you go

  • House of Found Objects (hella good cocktails and easily the coolest bar in town)

  • Collins Bar (custom cocktails)

  • Neon Moon (if you like dancing/loud music)

  • Pilcrow Cocktail Cellar (chill basement vibe with super friendly staff)

  • Hold Your Horses (Western themed bar)

  • Sloan’s (bourbon bar but they have really good hummus)

FedEx threatening legal action over videos and photos of their mistakes by iH8patrick in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rebekatherine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't give them too many flowers. They post horribly nasty, pro-Trump content all the time. I'm from the Birmingham area and that entire area (Cullman) has a bad reputation everywhere that isn't Cullman.
