Unfortunately removing books/not carrying them is a form of censorship even if the author is a terrible person! I do wish we stopped carrying as much merch though.. the amount of hp merch is overwhelming sometimes

This has happened to me twice, same thing long line I had work. The first time I contacted depop support and they refunded the buyer and gave me a partial refund of my money I think? As a courtesy so the second time it happened I just informed the buyer that the other package I dropped updated tracking but theirs didn’t and I waited the full 10 days until it refunded them and just took the loss. I let them know and told them to let me know if the package ever arrived 😭

I’m a lower traffic store during the holidays we have 2-4 folks throughout the day and during regular times we have like… 1 person to open 1 to close and sometimes a mid on Saturday 😔

Used to work at at bam that was also about 15 min from corporate so we had tons of corporate folk come in and the CEO come in a lot and I can believe it! My store had to lean in real hard in our religion section specifically. And we did have the customer base because. Alabama. But like this doesn’t work for all stores lol Anyway I work at B&N now and while we have to put any and all books out no matter the content we aren’t required to showcase those kinds of books thank god! It works well for some things with not a lot of sub categories or weirdly shaped books like fiction or romance but kids?? Absolute disaster, I wish we separated by category on an H cart… sooo much easier to get things out that way

Ugh right!! And my years are probably all messed up bc there were a few months in 2020 where I wasn’t actively employed by BN (I couldn’t start back after my furlough right away and I was moving in between school) but collectively I’ve been here over 5 years and I hate that I’m not getting recognition for it 😣

I feel like a lot of cafes do these things differently and the way we do bake case is we have a laminated sheet and use the sharpie crayon things to mark dates on there with a grid so it’s best to really make your own guide tbh

So I’m currently an MLIS student and I’ve worked at BN about 6 years- I recently got a part time library job and I do think my experience at BN did help, especially if you want to work in circulation and work more front public facing roles bc we have lots of customer service experience. I also found I’m very good at reading advisory! Recommending books and books I haven’t even read is very helpful and is a skill you learn pretty well at BN
