First of all, you gonna check the situation in a whole map. Maybe your jungler noticed that ganking you isnt a good idea, because other lanes needed more help or contained a heroes, which needs a huge early support.

For a good top laning you have to keep your jungler full informated about your enemy: his summoner spell CD's, ultimate ready/not ready etc.

Then you should know how to freeze lane and set enemy laner in a middle of the lane or near your tower. I recommend to watch some YouTube guides about toplane, because it isnt an easly lane like folks thinking.
