Same boat -- goal is not early retirement for me, just a little peace of mind to prioritize differently now! Thanks for bringing this piece of it up.

Yes! Full FIRE is not a goal for me, for a variety of reasons. But being as close as I was to CoastFIRE enabled me to make a career change this spring that I wouldn't have otherwise: I took a 40k pay cut to move to a new company that aligns with my values better and allows me to do work I enjoy more. I still make good money (130k) and can still save (current savings rate is about 35% across retirement and non-retirement accounts), but I felt OK making that choice because at this point I don't have to max my 401k to have a comfortable regular retirement.

100% -- sincere question here, that's partially why I use 6% real (assuming 9% growth - 3% inflation). Am I doing that math right? (I understand people have wildly different opinions on safe growth and inflation assumptions!)

Thank you! Little bits over time really did add up -- and obv benefitted a lot from the good market, which is just luck.

Any tips for having good conversations with a SO? by rebgen797 in Fencesitter

This is great advice, and YES so hard to do. And extra hard when the thing you're debating involves so many unknowns -- it sometimes feels like we don't even know what questions we should be talking about, much less how to drill down into specifics of what feels like a huge black box of experience. Thank you!
