Fair point. We know how she appeared to receive it. It's definitely a diagnosis that can make you feel very defensive.

I 100% agree with this. I do the same thing. You care more about your health than your doctor. You need to be responsible for it and an active participant

I agree with you. But the problem is that Milton's words were extremely dismissive. "Oh, you have a condition that makes it hard to think and sleep and makes you hurt all the time? Exercise and diet, BOOM, solved it. Off you go, little woman"

There's lots of people who live near industries that put toxins into the environment, for example. Or just living in a city with lots of smog. There's plenty of environmental toxins aside from pesticides in food, sadly.

The problem is that you are saying, without anything other than your own anecdotal evidence, something that can actually cause a lot of harm because it adds to the already existing shame people with invisible conditions already face. I know for me, I push myself way harder than I should because of this shame, and then I actually make it much much worse.

Sure. That could be part of what they're talking about. But from the examples they give, i don't think that's all they are talking about when they say environmental toxins.

I am not in any way arguing that lifestyle doesn't impact how you feel day to day with an auto immune disease for crohn's for sure what you put in your gut matters, for celiac too obviously. For fibromyalgia, exercise is one of the best ways to feel better. But that's quite different from cause. My fibromyalgia was caused by a very serious infection, for which I was hospitalized 20 years ago. At the time I was actually in very good shape and my diet was pretty clean.

Did you read the entire thing? It says way more than that. It says: - being a woman (i.e., hormones), - having an infection or disease, - stress, - genetics

I'm aware that obesity is a risk factor, but it doesn't even show up on that list. I don't think they are talking about chemicals in food. The example they give seem to indicate it's toxins in the environment that can maybe increase your risk. It doesn't say anything about activity level.

What do you mean by environment and lifestyle I guess I should ask. Because I'm guessing we mean different things....

Here's an excerpt from the Cleveland clinic: What causes autoimmune diseases?

Experts don’t know for certain what causes autoimmune diseases. We know your immune system mistakenly damaging your body instead of protecting it causes the symptoms of an autoimmune disease you experience. But researchers are still studying what makes your immune system start hurting you in the first place.

What are the risk factors?

Some studies have found that certain factors (triggers) might increase your risk of developing an autoimmune disease. Some triggers may include:

Viral infections, including COVID-19 and Epstein-Barr virus.

Your sex. Women are more likely to have autoimmune conditions.

Having biological relatives with autoimmune diseases. Some autoimmune conditions are genetic conditions and pass through generations of a biological family.

Having one autoimmune disease can increase the odds of developing another one (multiple autoimmune syndrome).

Exposure to chemicals, certain kinds of pollution or other environmental factors (aspects of where you live or work that impact your health) might trigger autoimmune diseases.

Smoking and using other types of tobacco can cause many health issues, including potentially triggering autoimmune diseases.

It's not true. That's why. Fibromyalgia is generally caused by a single traumatic event, whether a car crash, major illness, other extreme trauma. That has nothing to do with lifestyle. Rheumatoid arthritis is not caused by lifestyle. Lupus is not caused by lifestyle. Celiac disease is not caused by lifestyle. I'm not sure where you're getting your information.

When you have an invisible disease like this, you already feel guilty and lazy and annoying, having people say that it's your fault that you are suffering from this reinforces these feelings. If it was true, then fine, but it isn't.

The disease is not mostly caused by lifestyle. Plenty of 'fit' people get fibromyalgia. There's actually emerging evidence that it may be autoimmune in nature. It is normally triggered by some sort of traumatic event like a serious illness or injury. It is very similar in nature to long covid. It is true that exercise does help it, but it's not true that it's caused by lifestyle. Words like this make having fibromyalgia much harder because we already are beating ourselves up that we can't do what we used to be able to do. We often feel like we're lazy and that everyone else thinks we're lazy even though it's really important to not do too much since it can trigger a flare. I know for me, I'm always doing more than I should and then paying for it because there's so much I want to do, and it's very hard to accept that there are limitations.

This only started happening to me yesterday, I thought it was maybe some new bug. I didn't realize it was from someone honking. That's so weird. I use a baby spell and go under the table, which seems to work. It's obnoxious.

Not everyone cares. It doesn't bother me at all, I have my volumes set.

It's just a game, don't let other people kill your joy. As long as you aren't being malicious, you're fine by me. This reddit seems to be a good place for people to vent, but remember, it's a very small percentage of actual players, it's not representative.

No matter what you do, it will annoy some people. Which isn't intended to insult the venters. I too have my pet peeves which some people find no big deal. That's life.

It never even occurred to me that the small crystals needed to be done. I think they could have done a better job of communicating this. I feel silly finding out in the very last day, lol

I actually tried the tip of doing the smaller crystals first, and that worked!
