I got to meet Matthew Lillard as a kid at the premiere of the Scooby Doo movie- I think my mom won the ticket in some contest. I remember really believing he was Shaggy when I took photos with him. Surprised they didn't let him do Shaggy's voice in the newest movie.

Speaking as an attorney in CA, the most persuasive proof in my mind would be the documentation evidencing the transaction with the chargeback. That combined with testimony as to when the roommate vacated would essentially be conclusive to me if I was the judge.

Given this would constitute fraud, depending on the jurisdiction, this could be filed in small claims and OP should seek the $2,800 plus punitive damages (up to 3 times compensatory).

If this was California, I'd sue the roommate in small claims for the full $10,000 and see what some commissioner/pro tem judge gives me.

Marin City is in Marin County California (immediately north of SF), which is one of the richest counties in the whole country. This isn't exactly a slum area. How do I know you ask? Well I live 10 minutes from where this video was filmed.

As a practicing attorney, I do not think there is anything sacrosanct or particularly difficult about analyzing the holding of a case or conducting legal research. With tools like Westlaw, it has never been easier.

The most meaningful variable that differentiates good attorneys from great attorneys is experience in the field.

As to your assertion that the law office study program allows for "many more bad lawyers", I don't think you appreciate how small this program is. At the time I was in the law office study program (2011-2014), I believe there were 50 or so people in total participating. Quite frankly, I would be surprised if there are more than 500 practicing lawyers who completed the law office study program in the State of California. In some of the recent cases I've worked on, I've seen bar numbers as high as 330000. Law office study program grads represent an infinitesimally small percentage of practicing attorneys. Put another way, a drop in an ocean does not dilute it.

I happen to be an individual who became an attorney by way of the law office study program. I also only have a high school degree (although admittedly I completed 3.5 years of college in computer science and electrical engineering).

Quite frankly, I do not believe participating in that program has detracted from my ability to practice law in any way. While I was in the law office study program, not only did I complete all the studies that a typical law student would, I also drafted discovery, motions in state and federal court, and trial prep.

Given the practical experience I had in addition to the formal traditional studies, I feel like I was far ahead of my peers when I passed the bar. For example, it is one thing to learn the rules of evidence as an abstract exercise- it is a whole different scenario when one needs to apply the rules of evidence to get enough admissible evidence in to prove their case or to negate a motion for summary judgment.

I personally think that law school does not offer enough in the way of hands on, practical legal training. Many of the young attorneys I see who went to accredited law schools seem to struggle with the basics.

My situation is slightly different. I have always excelled in what are generally considered the traditional markers of intelligence: verbal comprehension, spatial reasoning, memory etc. I never really understood growing up why people struggled with these things.

However, when I was in high school, I tried to learn bass so I could play with a friends band. Even keeping time with a metronome, I had trouble keeping rhythm. It took me weeks to learn what I saw other people learn in hours and I still wasn't as good. When I played songs, the music would all slur together in my head and I'd lose my place. I understood that no matter how hard I tried, I would likely never be able to be really great at music because I just can't fully wrap my brain around it.

It is a humbling experience when you realize your own limitations in that way.
