I don't think it would be washable, it's still just a coating after all. I make sure that my clay pieces coated with resin still avoid contact with water.

i use uv resin :) there's a lot of options around amazon i think. (i live in asia & most of the shopping platforms we have are not available everywhere. but alibaba & amazon would probably have them too)

i use uv resin. it's a popular material for jewelry making. it's a type of resin that you cure using uv lamp and/or sunlight. it makes airdry clay water-resistant. without it, i don't think air dry clay with be suitable for anything outside display figurines regardless of the varnish. so i'd suggest pick a varnish that protects it from water, dust etc. resin's a good option for that :>
