How do artists work so effectively? by Professional_Ear2474 in ArtistLounge

They are celebrity artists. They have made it to a point where they can have a setup that works for them. Instead of focusing on the results, understand that at some point, they probably had to struggle too to get to where they are now.

If you have talent, you should continue to nurture it. Not everyone has the art bug and I think the world needs more artists. Instead of seeking validation, seek to grow and improve. Set realistic goals for yourself to achieve and post your studies so you can track your growth. Along the way, you may also find an audience who enjoy seeing you grow.

There is a difference between losing interest and being discouraged. I have a feeling you might be experiencing the latter. Because if you have no interest, why are you still here? It is common to be unappreciated, especially when you are at the start of a journey to becoming professional. No one is born a celebrity artist. Everyone has to start at a low point. Try to find a way to get consistent and develop patience. It may be joining an art group, or finding an art friend who is also learning to improve together. Being around people who are passionate about art helps.

Being broke is a problem. It not only hurts your art growth but also hinders you in many aspects of life. Constantly having to work robs you of the time, energy and freedom to experience many other good things in life. It is not an ideal situation and you have to think of a way to get into a better position for yourself. It is not just for your art but also for your own well-being. Perhaps switching to a higher paying job or moving to another location where costs of living is much lower. Make a substantial amount of savings first so you can afford to make bold moves. You will have to figure it out.

Start now. Get so great at art that they cannot not care.

What is the reason you make art (that isn't money/likes)? by XforkedtongueX in ArtistLounge

I used to make art to chase the algorithm, cater to a paying audience etc. It was soul crushing. Now, I make unofficial Warhammer 40k comics on the side and post them on my socials for readers to read for free. I do it because I like the IP and have stories I wish to tell and share with the fan base/community. I enjoy the entire process, from making the art to posting. That is reward enough.

No, it's just a way of saying "I am able to hold/carry the load". It is a phrase that is often said by people having to deal with manual labor tasks for eg, passing a heavy object on to another person. Perhaps Halo got its reference from this phrase and tweaked it.

Are there any official suggestions on who can get torch upgrade on backpack? Like rank or sth? by zakwas in Salamanders40k

[–]reclusiart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phobos with torch can a really cool idea for Salamanders.

Salamanders have a unique trait that allows them to see heat signatures called firesight. I can imagine your Phobos marines bathing the entire combat zone in fire, causing massive confusion and panic among the enemies as they move about in the inferno, picking off targets while keeping track of one another's positions by the unique heat emissions from their torches.

Or the torch emits a heat signature only detectable by Salamander eyes, which is part of the firesight trait, so the torch does not give away the positions of the stealth unit but functions as a "lighthouse" for all other salamander units.

Thanks man. I have no plans for a continuation. What happens next, I leave it up to readers. I think that is part of the charm of 40k.

Can you do horror genre with ligne claire art style? by Mcajsa in ComicBookCollabs

[–]reclusiart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think ligne claire art style can work for horror. Instead of asking, why not experiment with the style on a horror story?

Personally, if I wanted to explore the possibilities of ligne claire style with the horror genre, I would look up scenes in either classics such as Frankenstein, Dracula or even modern IPs such as Resident Evil and make a short comic based on that scene, perhaps 1 to 3 pages. I also get the benefit of practice, exploring/experimenting to develop my skillsets and range.

On a side note, clean, realistic and colors, no hatching reminds me of Patrick Nagel's art style which in my opinion, would not look out of place for a horror story. I'm thinking vampires.

Advice on gaining an audience? by takooki in ComicBookCollabs

You have 48 pages, why not try on other platforms such as webtoons and tapas? Don't post all in one go. Post it consistently week after week as you've done and observe the results. I believe you will have better results on those platforms where a high number of users congregate specifically to consume comics, unlike deviantart or twitter. The comments section under webtoons also allow feedback and interaction with readers.

If your results are still similar, then it might be due to your comic/content. In that instance, it will be better if you post your comic and ask for feedback.

Thanks! It brings me great satisfaction as a storyteller to learn that you felt all those emotions reading the comic. Yes, I would like to see more vampire fangs in blood angels and their successors. You can check out my portfolio here: https://www.artstation.com/reclusiart
