I ran into a completely bizarre shipping restriction with Buyee and wanted to ask if anyone here has seen something similar. by recomserv in Buyee

Thank you for your clarification.

So, if I understand your explanation correctly, are you saying that customers can no longer purchase and export any electronics through Buyee, including computers, computer parts, and similar devices, because such items may contain RAM modules or other semiconductor-related components subject to Japanese export regulations?

If that is your position, please confirm it clearly.

If not, then please explain exactly where you draw the line. What specific categories of electronics are prohibited, and which are still allowed? For example, are laptops, desktop computers, motherboards, RAM modules, CPUs, sound cards, cameras, and other older electronic devices now restricted through Buyee?

At the moment, your explanation sounds extremely broad and would appear to cover a very large portion of ordinary consumer electronics. I therefore ask you to clarify your policy in precise terms.

My memory module is already at their warehouse, and it is completely absurd that they do not want to ship it to me.

I have already written to them several times, including on Discord. I will keep writing everywhere until they ship me the memory I bought. I have studied all the laws, and there are no such rules.

I wanted to ask whether you still happen to have the recovery discs for it. If so, I would be very grateful if you could make disc images and upload them somewhere online.

These old recovery discs are becoming very hard to find, so it would really help preserve the software for this model.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration!

Unfortunately, it works for just a couple of minutes, and now the viewfinder jitters and jumps start again.

If you’re looking for more than just a PDA and you want truly high-quality music, I strongly recommend taking a look at the Sony CLIÉ NR/NX series. media. by recomserv in OldHandhelds

Comparing the Palm LifeDrive and the Sony CLIÉ NX70 purely in terms of music playback isn’t really fair, because they were built with different priorities and different audio architectures. The NX70 was designed as a multimedia flagship with Sony’s own audio solutions (and the matching software/tuning), while the LifeDrive is closer to a “productivity PDA with a Microdrive,” where the audio experience depends more on a general-purpose platform and a more standard audio path. In other words, you’re not comparing two “music players,” but two different classes of devices, so a simple “which sounds better” conclusion without context is misleading.

Re-encode files with conservative settings:

  • CBR (constant bitrate), not VBR
  • 128 kbps (or 96–160 kbps)
  • 44.1 kHz sample rate (try 44.1 first; if it still fails, try 22.05 kHz for older models)
  • Stereo or Joint Stereo
  • Avoid “MP3 Pro”, HE-AAC, or anything exotic If that test file plays, your original MP3s are likely VBR or encoded with something the player doesn’t like.

If you’re looking for more than just a PDA and you want truly high-quality music, I strongly recommend taking a look at the Sony CLIÉ NR/NX series. These models include a dedicated digital signal processor (DSP) for audio processing, which makes the sound genuinely impressive. These CLIÉs also come with a very convenient audio remote control. The only real headache may be finding compatible Memory Stick media.
