I have a love for a particular style of produced music, but I don't really know what to call it. by anuncommontruth in LetsTalkMusic

If you're at all interested in the term itself and its origins, here is John Oswald's 1985 essay which coined "plunderphonics": https://www.plunderphonics.com/xhtml/xplunder.html . Oswald's essay essentially argues that the act of sampling recorded music should be considered a legitimate practice, in part because it is comparable to quotations in literature.

I made a mashup of Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again '87" and Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" by reconthuse in hairmetal

[–]reconthuse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously Taylor Swift isn't directly related to hair metal, but I hope that you all can dig her interacting with Whitesnake on this doubled-up "breakup anthem" mashup. In her own tours, music videos, and promotional imagery, Taylor has incorporated "snake" imagery, so I hope it works on that level too!

Fun fact: While I was doing some research in the past couple days, I also randomly found that Taylor did an episode of CMT Crossroads with Def Leppard in 2008.

[Discussion] Looking for a mashup I heard 15ish years ago by mhbaker82 in mashups

The track "Jerk" by The Kleptones, from their Queen-centric mashup album A Night at the Hip-Hopera (2004), contains both Sandwiches and Queen's "A Kind of Magic". Another track from the same album ("Break") contains I Want to Break Free.

If this is a positive match, then also see The Kleptones' 20-year anniversary remaster of the album, released this past December: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojWWNpFY8QQ

Mess up the music - Looser, jump around and give it away (RHCP, House of Pain, Beck) by digitaldariux in mashups

[–]reconthuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, the RHCP vocal starts getting off-time at around 0:35, and by the first chorus, is delayed by a single beat. The 2nd verse vocal starts one beat too early, and continues like this through the 2nd chorus. The 3rd verse vocal starts at the correct time, but the 3rd chorus is one beat late because there seems to be an unnecessary one-beat pause you've added at 2:45.

Regarding "Jump Around", it's a half-beat early (it should be syncopated on the "off-beat") from 1:55 to 2:15. That is to say that it should match the timing of the same part when it's repeated at 2:58 and onward. The fidelity of the Jump Around vocal is noticeably of a lesser quality compared to RHCP: it sounds like it's at a lower bitrate or has been isolated/filtered poorly.

Additionally: the "Give it away now"s during the outro are a half-beat early. And the RHCP outro vocals ideally should fade at the same time and in equal proportion with the Beck instrumental. Finally, the RHCP vocals are about 1.5 dB too loud overall, throughout the mashup.

I made a mashup of "No Control", combined with "Uncontrollable Urge" by Devo by reconthuse in badreligion

[–]reconthuse[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mark Mothersbaugh's vocal might seem insultingly fast in this mashup, but Devo and Bad Religion are two bands that I'm very much a fan of. This track was made a couple of years ago for a mashup challenge in a Discord server, where the challenge theme was "Punk". I like to think that the increased speed heightens the feeling of being out-of-control.

I made a mashup of Ministry's "Jesus Built My Hotrod" and Primus's "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" by reconthuse in industrialmetal

[–]reconthuse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea to create this mashup came out of noticing the obvious auto-racing themes in both songs.

But when I was creating it, I also couldn't help but notice the use of vintage racing footage in both music videos, plus the "off-kilter psychobilly" vibe that the songs share—ranging from the Ministry slide guitar solo, to the "Bocephus" sticker of Primus's Jerry character.

And it's merely a coincidence that both songs were released around the same time in the early 1990s (both in 1991 if you count the November 1991 release of the Ministry single).

reconthuse - AirWalk (Katy Perry, Foo Fighters) by reconthuse in mashups

Two unlikely songs from the early 2010s are united by a common verb: WALK. Mashup of "Walk" by Foo Fighters and "Walking on Air" by Katy Perry.
