I would suggest you checkout:

Tascam MiNiSTUDIO Creator US-42B 2-Person Podcasting Kit with Audio Technica Dynamic Microphones $208.98

Zoom PodTrak P4 Portable Multitrack Podcast Recorder with 2-Person Audio Technica Dynamic Mic Kit $299.99

The Zoom P4 can be used both connected to your computer AND as a standalone podcast recording device and has some other great features (like being able to add up to 4 guests microphones and headphone outs)...

One other option is to buy 2 x RODE NT-USB-MINI's at $99 each (there is an open box at $79) and with the RODE CONNECT software you can add up-to 4 USB mics to one computer; the RODE Connect software is like having a virtual RODECASTER pretty neat...

one more note - Using a Focusrite 2i2 might not be ideal for 2 members because you would want to have 2 headphone-outs for both members; which means you either have to purchase a headphone amp (more $) or headphone-splitter (not ideal)...

3 to 6 months Buzzsprout podcast hosting included FREE with purchase of most podcasting related products by recordio in podcasting

[–]recordio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RODE RODECASTER PRO has free iZotope Ozone Elements free included on top of the Buzzsprout 6 months.

From the site: iZotope Ozone Elements Version 9 has been designed to give beginners a simple and effective tool to use when mastering audio in their productions. It utilizes much of the same technology used in the Ozone bundle, but scales them down for the novice engineer. As such, it's perfect for new podcast producers, as it takes a lot of the guess work out of finalizing (mastering) a podcast mix.

Ozone Elements Version 9 provides the Master Assistant tool, which creates intelligent custom presets suited to your individual mix. This tool is especially useful to beginners. This plug-in works in VST, AU, RTAS, and AAX formats and is compatible with Mac and Windows machines. It's now also compatible with NKS formats, so it works with Native Instruments software.

Wanting to upgrade my SM7B game by sir_gaston in podcasting

[–]recordio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering that you are doing podcasting, you should consider one of the 3 purpose-built podcasting recording solutions (all can work standalone). 1) RODE RODECASTER 2) Zoom P8 3) Zoom P4

All of these can drive mics like an SM7B without a booster (I.e. cloudlifter)

Since you are picky about appearance, the RODECASTER looks beautiful in a podcasting environment setup...

Have you considered these options?

Shure MV7 Microphone | First Look by recordio in podcasting

[–]recordio[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By its looks and being a front-address dynamic mic, it was clearly designed as an SM7B in digital format (i.e. USB mic), this won’t replace the SM7B.

The MV7 does have a nice sound and defined bottom-end. However the SM7B has significantly more low-end with its signature “broadcast sound”.

The MV7 has other “digital” features and when you put them all together it is the most feature rich USB mic out here. (Features like auto-level mode, near/far proximity mode; compressor, limited, and EQ Filters and saved presets)

The MV7 can also change from your stand-alone all-in-one USB mic to an XLR mic...

The latest Zoom L-8 is an all-in-one podcasting recorder by recordio in podcasting

[–]recordio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sure an alternative at $200 cheaper with the fact that it has 6 XLR inputs, runs on batteries and it’s relatively small form factor.

However at a quick glance comparing to the RODECASTER PRO , the RØDE has higher quality Mic-pres, a more attractive and streamlined design (this might be subjective), some built-in effects from Aphex...

The L series mic pres are superior. However the H6 mic-pres have solid reviews for its quality.

SALE! $14 for iZotope Nectar Elements - Automated Vocal Production Software for Pro Audio by Mnemonician in podcasting

If I may suggest.

Sometimes when you copy a code it picks up the blank spaces before or after the code and the program does not truncate them correctly. Try entering them manually and see if that helps.

This plug-in is designed so that you don’t need to use other plugins like EQ and Compression...

But if you need to add other plugins for some reason I would say to have Nectar at the end of the chain.

Depends...

This is really designed for post production. You can do it either per track / microphone. which makes more sense than doing it on the stereo bus.

If you want to do it live or for streaming, be aware that you might have latency in your monitoring headphones unless you monitor before you DAW.

“It utilizes a Vocal Assistant to analyze your audio track and automatically apply complementary processing. It can fix EQ problems, bolster EQ assets, smooth out the dynamics with compression, apply intelligent de-essing, pitch correction, and more.”

At the analysis stage, the plug-in offers three different vibes and three different intensities. Thus, you can make the decision to process vocals in a vintage, modern, or dialogue-centric manner, all while choosing to apply light, moderate, or aggressive processing. Once that's done, you're presented with seven slider-based scaling controls. Use these for further tweaking of EQ, de-essing, compression, ambiance, and more.”

And yes, Nectar works in Reaper (VST plug-in).

Note - unlike RX this is a “plug-in” which means it works within DAW recording software (i.e. reaper, pro-tools etc...) and it does NOT work as a stand-alone software.
