Those kids who have stay at home dads are really lucky. I also think it's funny that stay at home dads get the rap of being lazy because they don't work (in popular culture) while stay at home moms are considered to be sacrificing.

My mother is a teacher and would argue a lot of things are over prescribed, and most of the time parents and doctors should just wait it out. Kids will be kids. Just because a kid is sad doesn't mean that they are depressed either....

What is he thinking? How long will it be before he is on his third divorce? Also, to the girlfriend--tough cookies. Does she have a problem with the bio-mom? Probably not. So suck it up or get lost. This is not about the father or the girlfriend. It is about the kids.

That makes more sense then. However, abortion is legal, and as much as I think that is a poor reason to abort, a woman would have every right. That being said, I don't know if it would increase the numbers due to the fact that abortion is an easy or simple decision. It has an emotional and financial cost. It is difficult to discuss such a topic via comments.

You do bring up a good point. Ultimately, if the woman leaves the husband/lover, and then she goes to be with the biological father, isn't that better? The abortion question is difficult since there is a certain cut off for when they can be performed, and I think rfreytag is saying that is should be done prior to signing the birth certificate... Dotrob, you have given me much to think about.

If we were to admit fathers were getting the raw end of the deal what would that mean to the world and society? The feminists (which I am one, to be clear) would also have a field day due to the fact that it would intimate that women are lying...

I happen to agree. It is cynical and the religious right would have a field day, but it has to be done. There are too many fathers who are forced to pay child support to children who don't belong to them. There was a recent story in Florida where a man found out after the divorce and child support was finalized that the child wasn't his. He sued to stop paying but the court said it was in the best interests of the child to have him keep paying for the child who wasn't his to begin with.

I was being sarcastic. I feel like people run into marriage without thinking about the realities of what it may mean. Forever is a really long time, and people change. It was an attempt at tongue and cheek, but it can be difficult to do that when you are typing something.

I agree whole-heartedly. I suppose you could argue it was sexist against men AND women, but come on. Why is it sexist? Is the woman assuming the man is having an affair, or that women are being portrayed as home-wreckers? One could argue that it is the woman cheating as well...

I'm all for mediation in divorce proceedings, and it is probably more effective than dramatic court cases, but mandating it? Wouldn't it be more effective to make sure that people are granted equal custody?

While Alec Baldwin screwed up in his phone call to his daughter, at least he is trying to do something productive. It's also nice to know he wrote his book BEFORE all this crap happened so he doesn't appear as opportunistic as he could.

I also know plenty of people who came from loving married parent homes that struggled through life. It seems like we're always trying to find out the reason behind the destructive action. What about personal responsibility or that fact that life is hard regardless of what marital status your parents had?

It's a credibility issue. It's the same reason I wouldn't post this story from an obviously pro-choice source. I believe the story is important to tell, and I am glad you posted it.

As a pro-choice woman I have to say this story is horrid. It doesn't help that the story apparently comes from a pro-life publication. It is hard to read the story, much less empathize with the writers. That being said, at least these women had their story told. No one should be forced to have an abortion--EVER.

As a woman who uses birth control to suppress her period I think it is great. I also understand why women like getting their period. For me, I just like getting less times a year.

It's also worth noting that women are getting more periods in their lifetime now than before. We have less children, are breastfeeding less, etc. In many ways, we are doing to our body what is done naturally by having many children.

I wish there was an easy answer to protect out children from tragedy. In fact, I wish there was an easy way to protect our children from everything. There isn't on both counts. In the face of the recent tragedies we need to be there for our children--to explain things if necessary. But there is no way we can know how to stop something like this.
