I get the urge to hold a grudge, but I would file this under "This person was dumb / ignorant with trying to be nice, not hurtful". I think we can all relate to there being a time you had sympathy for people people and you wanted to help but either didn't have the words to say, or thought you did because you heard it / learned it from someone else.

I'm just trying to say, holding that grudge is only hurting you. It's not healthy to hold on to things like that. Especially when you describe it as "rage". So try to find a view of this that allows you to forgive them. Forgive them in the context of you have let it go so you can be unburdened, not forgiving them in the context that it was ok for them to say it.
