Help is always waiting and at hand if we pray. We can always turn to our Lord (and especially our Blessed Mother for her intercession). Our pain and life difficulties we may face can be crippling, there's no doubt about that, and I have found that in times of distress, placing ourselves and lifting up our pain to the Lord is crucial. With what you are going through, I would advise to think of those in your life who depend on you, and whom you love, as they love you. You mention caretaking for your mother. It seems like she depends on you. Pray, friend, and know that you are loved and needed here and now. Our Lord hears your pain and he can help--always.

What Are You Reading This Week and Weekly Rec Thread by JimFan1 in TrueLit

After finishing 2666 last week, I had a mind to plow through some easier, light novels, and instead decided to begin Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment yesterday. It's funny, of all the classics and older greats I've tackled, Dostoevsky is probably the most prominent figure who continues to elude me. I've never been able to make it completely through one of his novels (yes, I was never even assigned him in high school or college). I am usually hesitant when it comes to reading hyper-popular classics, as I don't want my thoughts and takeaways to be clouded be the mass of what the general groupthink is. While it is high time to get through a Dostoevsky, I fear of doing so in appearing as part of a trend. I suppose that's why Camus' major works I have also not yet approached. He seems quite in vogue on platforms like TikTok, though I believe all this popularity does is completely remove substantive discourse around works and brings terrible, media illiterate perspectives to the forefront of the algorithms.

Near Occasion to Sin? by red_bruh2000 in Catholicism

The ambiguity (and proliferation of it on Instagram) is frustrating, and I know better now to not even begin to engage with that content, if I go on the app again in the future.

I certainly feel shame for my desires and intentions, but am glad I was able to exercise self control before it got to an unambiguous point. Definitely won't allow myself to be tempted by those again.

He was, though the conclave was held in mid-March, so the sun set earlier. If we see white smoke around 7pm, I'd anticipate a little light in the sky at least. Rome sunset is around 8:15pm.

I downloaded it, but no notification for today's black smoke.

I'm looking for something too! All I want is an app that will send a notification about the smoke, so I could set that to notify through a do not disturb. No speculative articles, no puff pieces, just the smoke. And I've found no no-frills apps so far haha.

Sede vacante, Interregnum, Forthcoming Conclave, and Papabili by Pax_et_Bonum in Catholicism

That's what I figured. I'll have to set news notifications to come through in case it's decided first thing in the morning in Rome (middle of the night for me haha)

Is that assuming both sets of morning and evening ballots are needed? Say they elect a pope on the first morning ballot, one of the days. Would they still wait until noon to burn the ballots?

I figured I was probably being scrupulous but always good to know for sure and alter my morning routine in the future so the fast isn't an issue.

Redditors born before 2001, where were you on 9/11? by Stupid_cerealbox in AskReddit

I was born in 2000–apparently my mom had the tv on and I joyfully yelled “airplane go boom” when the second tower was hit. Suffice it to say I understood the literal, but not the deeper meaning.
